If this is still available what is your best price from one Axel in NYC to another ?

Walter,
I appreciate your input. I’ve been working in the postproduction field for 10+ years and I never had such problems with any other harddrive before.
the only thing I can say is that I see drives going down left and right (including some of our drives), and all of them have ‘Lacie’ written on them.
Our drives sit in an airconditioned, dustfree environment and are only expspected to spin…

Lacie is the devil. We just had 4 drives dying on us within the last two months…
You should not have these problems. 20% free space is plentiful. Here is what I would suggest: As long as your drive is still running: Back up your project on an internal SATA drive or something else.
Usually what gives up is not the drive itself but the bridgeboard between the drive and the ports…
Just another idea: If you are running firewire 800 and another 400 device from your computer, you can run into issues because they share the same port. I had the in the beginning until I installed an additional firewire 800 card.

I am a German producer working out of New York, so I have to deal with norm conversion quite a bit. The Natress thing is an incredible bang for the buck at $100.
FCP converts but it is not as good…

sony support officially told me that the bvw-50 is a no go for assemble edit…
big bummer ….
thanks for all your great support though

I know the deck works as a feeder – the million dollar question though – does it work as a recorder in “edit to tape” mode ?
-
Thanks Jeremy. Never has help sucked that much 🙂 (just kidding…)

Jeremy,
Thanks for your post. Are you sure ? My BVW-50 has a sony RS-422 9-pin edit control. I can control the deck from my remote controls on final cut, when I give it an “in” at 00:01:30:00 it will automatically preroll to 00:01:27:00 but then I get a pop up saying “adjust pre-roll settings”

Well – it does not seem I am the only person with head troubles…

Had exactly the same problem that you have. My deck is in service right now. Broke down two months after purchase with about 50-60 hours on the head. Jittery image like the head was gone. Cleaning tape did not help.
The JVC professional support is a joke too. Doesn’t sound too encouraging what I hear from you.
If you send me your email adress to a.ebermann@previewproduction.com I will keep you posted.
