Yes, tho 601 has NO Digital I/O capablities, and does not always do a good job of capturing 720×486 media.

Media 100 told me, they recommend a minimum 1.67 Power book with 2 gig ram – but the application is optimized for the G5.
I’ll bet a dual 1.42 G4 Tower or better.

you would want to force render when exporting a timeline for something like web-encoding, where otherwise real time static titles, or color corrections, etc. would not need to be rendered when mastering to tape.

Let me ask again, what codecs do you use IN producer? Meaning, do you capture with Producer Via firewire? If so, are you capturing into the iCodec, or are you capturing into a DV codec? (Producer WILL let you capture from Firewire into the iCodec, I suggest doing this.)
When you render titles and FX in producer, are you rendering those into the iCodec as well??
I do understand that in-order to get video out via F/W you need to switch back to DV, but you should be doing all you aquisition/rendering to the iCodec if you plan to send this project back to m100i for mastering (to Mediapress, right?)
Let me know if this makes sense.

January 12, 2007 at 9:53 pm in reply to: COW Reviews: Media 100 Software-Only Media 100 ProducerOK, well the FCP thing, maybe I haven’t used FCP in a while, but I don’t remember the video out put being in sync with desk top play back.
What version of Media 100 i are you using on your XR? The lengthy import thing was an issue that was supposedly fixed with Media 100 i Version 8.2.3 – If you haven’t done that yet, try updating to 8.2.3a.

Jim, What codecs are you using in Producer? What Codec are you exporting to from Producer? Media 100 i will ONLY work with the i codec – Producer will allow you to work with a TON of non-i codecs, so this could be affecting your backwards compatiblity.
I’ve worked with FCP in software only mode, and the output to my DV deck was NEVER synced to the playback on my desk top, unless your using FCP with some type of 3rd party hardware, such as AJA’s I/O, then it might be different. So I guess I don’t understand why the delay to your deck is such an issue so long as you have proper A/V sync there.

January 8, 2007 at 6:53 pm in reply to: Annoying video delay: Producer -> Deck -> monitorThis is the nature of Firewire Output. FCP does the same thing – so the key is, when monitoring audio, pick with monitor you want to use, and listen to the audio out put from that (e.g. if you are looking at the NTSC montior, listen to the audio coming off your deck).

I believe Media 100 offers a version of their HD software that will include the drivers to use your Kona Card.
SW and Producer definately can’t do it, because they don’t include the m100 hardware drivers. I’d check in with M100 to see what they can offer you.

M100’s codec is stil not a Universal Binary, it needs to open under rosetta – what application are you trying to use the Media 100 files with in?
If you are simply trying to open them in Quick time – go to the application folder for QT – get info on the QT application icon (cmnd+I) , somewhere with in that dialog, there’s a check box ‘open in rosetta’ when you click this, QT will run in rosetta and allow you to access the m100 codec.
You would have to do this for any application you wish to use with the m100 codec (I think) – or use QT pro to then export to an intermediary codec like, say, animation codec.

I remember seeing a similar post to this earlier when some one was trying to record audio only – I think you still will need to have a valid video signal being fed into your breakout box, even if your not actually acquiring video.
