I remember the UI in 8.0 was really sluggish, and the combination of Mac OS updates and Media 100 software updates fixed that.

Um… It sounds like you bought blue with out checking the system requirments first? Blue relies very heavily on Open GL for EVERYTHING, and if your card fails the open GL Test, blue really won’t do much at all, if it does anything….
I run Blue on a PC with an nVidia 6600Gt card and 1 GB RAM and that does well. If your card does not pass the open GL test, you do not need a new computer, but you might need a new graphics card.
this is a page from boris website with a list of supported graphics cards:

Try to force render the black clips. Find the Rendered Media file on you video drive and bring that into a bin – use that media clip when doing the export.
Not sure if this will fix your problem, but it’s worth a try.

7.5 IRE, I think the 0 IRE setting is for Japanese NTSC standard. Setting NTSC at 0 would create super-dark black

sounds like the processor upgrade is causing your issues. If I recall, and I’m stretching my memory here, media 100 never recomended upgrading your processors.
I would try swapping the old processor back into the system, and re-installing the last m100 version you had working.

Media 100’s hardware based HD systems will be able to downconvert and HD timeline while mastering, meaning you do NOT have to render an HD downcovert.
Media 100 will attempt to play disolves and color corrections in real time for HD timelines, but performance will depend on howfast your Hard drive array is, and how fast your computer is – but I do don’t think render times for color correction and transitions would be too bad at all, but this may also depend on the complexity of the effect…

Some of the canopus converters have a switch for video in (to the converter) via firewire and video out – don’t know if this model does that… but it’s worth a shot.

fyi, Media 100’s new line can Mix 640 and 720. Producer et al is native 720 and scales the 640 to fit a 720 frame (and leaves 3 black lines at the top and bottom of the frame). You would still need to do the AE trick if you’re sending such a hybrid timeline to AE.

January 24, 2007 at 7:16 pm in reply to: Upgrade Media100 or switch to Final Cut Pro/AvidUpgrade Media 100 i to iFinish? That makes no sense, as iFinish is more dead than Media 100 i (bad grammar, sorry)…
If you regularly revisit old projects, you would have to rebuild all these by swtiching away from media 100. Also, the new media 100 systems are much faster than the software/hardware your using today, so I suspect the lengthy exports would be far less painful on the new m100s.
Do you like the Media 100 UI? Are you comfortable editing on Media 100? You’d have to learn new software by switching.
have you tried contacting Media 100 to see what they have to offer?
