HMM… I’m stumped – I wonder if there is some issue where you simply cannot apply that type of to the ‘back ground video,’ as you say that your NOT seeing this issue if you’re applying the effect to any other media type that you bring in?
sorry

My $.02:
You know Media 100, and presumably like the way it works, so the new m100 11.5 system will be familiar to you (read: little to no learning curve), and it’s infinitely more productive vis a vis your Media 100 i system. (faster renders, more realtime performance, 99 layers, etc).
You’ll be able to access old projects and media files from media 100 i in version 11.5 – so if you have to revisit projects you won’t have to re-edit them on new software, HUGE time savings vrs. switching to a new NLE.
PLUS, the hardware media 100 sells today is pretty much off the shelf AJA hardware which is VERY universal – so you’re NOT locked into proprietary hardware they way you were with m100i
and last point, now that m100 is part of Boris FX, they seem very committed to developing the software, so my hope is that we’ll see many new features added to media 100 over the coming years.
Okay, that’s all for now.

OK Greg, here’s a WILD stab in the dark:
Try creating a Black Clip (of what ever length you need, I’d do 20 – 30 seconds so I have enough) and force rendering it (so it creates a media file).
find that rendered media file and add it to a bin (you’ll need to located it on your drives and just drag and drop into a bin)
Replace the black clips on your time line with this new ‘rendered black’ clip and see if that helps.
I don’t know that it WILL fix this for you, but it’s worth a try…
(it could also be that the MPEG 2 compression does not like desolves – this is a VERY difficult transition type for MPEG 2 to handle)

Lynne,
did you archive only the Project file, or did you also archive your programs and bins?
Media 100 treats projects, bins and programs as separate entities, and archiving only a project will NOT archive the Programs and Bins.
So I suspect when you open the project, your programs and Bins are showing as offline. You need to track down those files (programs and bins), hopefully you still have them!
Hope this helps

Is V1 in boris the back ground video from you media 100 time line, or are you adding a new layer in boris and picking a video file for it?
If V1 is your back ground video from m100 timeline, what happens if instead if you pull a clip in using the bin browser?
As a test, create a Boris clip in media 100 on v1 and on vA/B put any video clip and launch boris – In Boris, change the media type of the background by clicking on the face and opening the ‘binbrowser’ find any other clip, and recreate your title and see if this still happens.

Jaeson,
What version of Media 100 are you using? 11 or 11.5?
And you referr to SW – do you mean “media 100 SW” or Media 100 Software? If you mean “Media 100 SW,” then it’s 11.0 of Media 100. Have you tried installing/Upgrading to Producer? Producer is version 11.5 and the replacement for SW.
If not, maybe try downloading the trial version of Producer and open a COPY of your program and try this in Producer – maybe there’s an incompatibly bewtween RED 4 and version 11.0 of m100 – I believe RED 4 was released after m100 11.5 and I doubt RED 4 was tested on 11.0 of m100…

I think I remember seeing this in SW – when in the Boris, try turning of the eyeball on the background layer and rendering it again in m100.

the Media 100 Codec is PowerPC (G5), on a Mac Pro, you would need to access the codec via Rosetta. Media 100 Producer is running under rossetta in this scenario, so it understands the codec.
to get the codec to work in quicktime player, navigate to your application folder, select the quicktime application icon and ‘get info’ (cmd+i) there’s a check box called ‘run under rosetta’ or something similar – turn that on, and you’ll be able to access the Media 100 codec in QT.
I think that You can do the same thing in DVD Studio Pro too if you use it…

March 19, 2007 at 5:05 pm in reply to: There seems to be a problem with QT 7.1.5 & Media 100Jim,
Did you download QT 7.1.5 yourself, or do you have the automatic updates turned on? If the latter, PLEASE do yourself a favor and turn that thing off.
I NEVER update quick time unless I ablsolutely have to, or if M100 says its ok. I’m not sure what 7.1.5 fixes, but clearly it’s breaking other things (your m100 for example).
I know this is not terribly helpful regarding your issue at hand, but my $.02 is to avoid OS and QT updates unless absolutely needed. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

HMM.. Wild guess, possibly a plist issue – in the preferenced folder, there’s a file called com.media100.media100hd.plist or something very similar.
Try trashing this file.
