I’m with Michael. Up till now, shooting with the 5D has been a world of pain for anyone who wanted to use it for any output other than the web or internal computer use. This firmware upgrade makes the 5D a useable camera for mainstream use.

If you shoot correctly, then yes. Shoot for the key, pull the key, you can then use that as a travel matte for whatever you want to do afterwards.

Because it will cost you at least $25,000-30,000 to have a negative made.
That does not include the cost of color correction, sound mix, reconforming any material that’s not in your original format, and retiming any frame rate that’s not 24fps, 23.976fps or 25fps into a frame rate that can be shot out to film.
In Europe, you can get grants & subsidies for this. In the US, you need a distribution deal that will pay you enough of an advance to cover these costs.

Then you will need to test this with the transfer house. You should start testing right now, because the results of your tests will effect your entire post production work flow.

For future reference, you should have made this decision during preproduction. If you don’t have your post frame work mapped out before you start shooting, the odds of actually finishing your film are greatly reduced. And you may even find that you’ve locked yourself out of certain options (like a film finish) because of decisions you made during production.

Well, that’s a problem. You have to have something to replace the person with. You might be able to clone background in from other shots, but it’s a lot of work and may not be all that clean.

I’m assuming that you shot this with motion control, and there’s a 2nd take with a clean plate.
In which case, you’d rotoscope the person out of the background, apply the pixel explosion and lay it over the clean plate.

That’s called “tracking” and “match-moving”. Motion has a pretty good tracker, but it’s a bit complicated to use. You’ll apply the tracker and the match-move as behaviors. I’d recommend looking up tracking & match-moving in the manual and keep it open as a reference while you work.

OK, that tells us something. Step through the footage one frame at a time and look at the fields. If it’s shot 24PA, then you should see a pulldown pattern of 2:3:3:2, which looks like 2 progressive, 1 interlaced and 2 progressive frames. If it’s “regular” 24P, you should see a 2:3:2:3 pattern, which gives you 2 progressive, 2 interlaced and 1 progressive frame.
If you don’t see either of those patterns, then you don’t have 24P material. You’ll either see every frame interlaced or progressive (30i or 30P).
