what I do is to move my /Library/Fonts/ folder to the root of the HD, rename it “disabled fonts”, add the microsoft fonts and reboot. Garantied to fix your problems with Title 3D. Then I re-add fonts as needed (I just browse them with Fontbook instead of inside the apps).
I’ve tried a few utiliies before, but they don’t fix incompatibilities, so I have bad opinion of them. I haven’t searched long enough, though, before trying the drastic technique of throwing everything out.

Avid on Mac uses standard HFS+ format. On PC it uses standard NTFS. There’s no special Avid format.
If you don’t see a FW device in system profiler, then either its FW port or your FW cable is busted.

the thing you need to know is that Title 3D requires some fonts to be installed. I know Arial is riquired, but I don’t know about the others.
What you can do if you have Microsoft Word is to go to ‘/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Fonts/’ and copy the fonts to ‘/Library/Fonts/’. Then repair permissions.
The old method was to download Internet Explorer and reinstall it, but Microsoft recently removed the link to IE for mac…If this still doesn’t work, you have a incompatible/corrupted font.

maybe you could try to move the fonts in /Users/~/Library/Fonts/ to /Library/Fonts. I had problems loading the “Styles Palette” and doing this fixed it.

10-bit rendering is noticeabily buggy in FCP.
Maybe you could send some feedback to Apple so that they finaly fix it. This bug has been there for a while now.

FCP EDL problem happen mostly with speed changes. In some Apple release notes I’ve read that they have fixed this problem, but since i’m still on 4.5, I don’t know.
I’ve done only one offline with subclips that I recall off, and it worked ok. All the rants about FCP media manger relates mostly to recapture getting more media than it should and speed changes getting screwed. I have the feeling Apple got the subclips right.
The best workflow you could have used is to have a TC burnin of your telecine to ensure that the FCP timecode corresponds to the master tapes timecode. With a TC burning, you can easily ensure that your EDL is ok by importing the EDL, appling a TC generator on the offline clips and scrubbing the timline to see if they are sync. But if you are 100% sure that there are no TC break, then you should be fine without doing a verification.

Exactly. And when you’re editing DV captured footage in a DV sequence, it’s much easier to capture DVD footage straight to DV. No render, little wonder. This might be different if your footage is only DVD, but this hasn’t happened to me. Yet.

If you want a free DVD extractor, there is one called “Yade X”. Not only it’s free, but it allows to extract selected parts of a DVD.
For quick jobs edited in DV I convert the .m2v file straight to DV. There is some subtle quality loss, but usualy it doesn’t matter unless it’s graphics. And DV gives small files that require no rendering in a DV sequence.

have you tried reducing the “Video Performance” slider inside the Display config panel of windows? I’ve already had this bug with a particular computer once, though it was happening with QT and WMP.
