I can entertain the notion that someday I’ll use FCPX, even though I’d have to learn how to use Macs properly and don’t really care for them from when I have used them and from what I’ve heard about the lack of ability to upgrade them. But I’d take that over Adobe’s subscription model any day. Plus, Apple has software that you can use in conjuction with FCPX for things like editing pictures and 3D effects.

Thanks for the info, John. I’ve been regularly amazed lately at how better communication or a little more knowledge on my part about equipment I don’t use would have been useful lately (this same project’s shoot was delayed for a few days because the camera operator couldn’t get the sound running on a Panasonic HPX170, but in reality that’s my responsibility as director to know how to do).

Though I think it came out better for the delay, anyways.

And if you’re curious, the project comes out tonight at 5 PM EST. It’s Angelo’s Mom: The Movie!

Yeah. I still want to see confirmation one way or the other what Vegas wants to do, but if they don’t release a Vegas 14, maybe DaVinci Resolve would be a good alternative since there’s a free version, and I’m reading that it’s getting and has gotten a lot of more convenient editing features.

[Harry Maathuis] “Sad message! I was at IBC 2015 and spoke there with Gary Rebholz about the future of Vegas Pro. VP will be maintained he said, but there will be no version 14.”

Wow. Never? That would be sad, indeed, and would mean that either I’d eventually switch to Premiere or Final Cut, or maybe they’re making Catalyst their new editing software they support.

But I am curious if he really meant never or just that it’s not coming this year. It’s too easy for something to get exaggerated down the grape vine.

I’ve been working on a project with a friend who uses Final Cut X, and it’s been interesting trying to ask him for certain edits to the sound that involve plugins that I use in seconds with Vegas. Apparently, FCPX doesn’t have a Wave Hammer plugin, or at least he wasn’t aware of one.

I would hate to switch to ransomware like Premiere just to edit on future computers or cameras I work with. But I’d like to hear something more conclusive about the future of Vegas.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but check the link you put into that text for that link. The text has the correct link, meaning I can copy and paste it into my browser. But when I click on it it directs me to a broken link, which you have inserted in there.

Something like this is a reason I always save different projects before and after I create my multicamera track. Always use Save As before major changes to a project you may want to go back to, and back up your current project while it works with a separate Vegas file that just takes seconds.

I learned the hard way several times.

  • Interesting. I’ve never used a LUT and am not exactly sure how to go about it, but I’m download this now to test it out.

  • I forget exactly which combination of which will do this, but either change the project properties to your output resolution, or go into the Pan and Crop plugin for each event and change them to the output resolution. One of those will work and won’t add letterboxing. Whether the tv will if they’re not the same as the tv’s resolution when its vertical is another matter.

I no longer anti-virus software. My computer doesn’t run very slowly (though it could use some help). It’s the boot up time that takes a while because I get a black screen before I get to my desktop for 15 seconds or so.

Edit: I downloaded a trial of Diskeeper. It seems pretty cool and Firefox already seems to open faster after startup. I’ll render a video today and see if it makes a difference there, too. I still get the black screen, though, which it seems like I’ll have to reinstall Windows 7 to fix.

  • You can just put them in a folder in Windows, click on “Date” at the top to organize them chronologically, and highlight them all. Then right click on the first file you want to rename, change the name, and Windows will automatically add a “(1)” at the end, and will number the rest in order.

Or if you lay them out in Vegas, you can use the Vegasaur extension (https://vegasaur.com/) and there’s a function to sort events chronologically on the timeline. But I think doing it in Windows is easier since you can rename them as well there.
