The difficulty also depends on your camera move. A locked shot is far easier than tracking a handheld or stedi-cam shot. The latter may need something more specialized like Nuke by The Foundry.
Also be prepared that even with green screen you should have to do some manual rotoscoping and frame painting especially if the ceiling is poorly lit. You’ll want to prepare your green screen for motion tracking by peppering it with darker green X and triangles – shapes that a tracker can hold onto.
As far as computing power, it’s doable on an iMac, but there are too many variables to guess how long it will take you to work or render.

Do you have any CPU temperature monitoring software? Most modern CPUs will throttle down their speed if they are nearing temperatures that may damage it.
I would confirm with temp monitoring, and if that is the case then I’d dust out your computer or research some more robust cooling solutions.

Well before going deeper for an issue that may be a simple fix… what is your hard drive setup looking like? Also, and I’m not a OSX expert so you may need to poke around, but do you have any aggressive power saving settings that may throw your drives into sleep mode? This is the common cause of delays between pressing playback and getting actual playback.
The Quadro card/Mercury Playback should handle the load of resizing from 5K to 1080 so I don’t think it’s a bottleneck.

Where does Avisynth come into play? I’ve used Debugmode Frameserver and FFMPEG together without issue to do single files… I’ve moved on to more advanced batching methods, but the former was rock solid for me.
Are you using Avisynth to add some kind of filtering?

Are you rendering the timeline fully to green? If you aren’t (By selecting Sequence > Render Entire Work Area) then your computer is still playing the RED raw files directly.
There are three ways of going about things:
1) Make sure you render your timelines to green. I would select ProRes proxy as the preview format. I don’t recommend it since you’ll have to render every time you lay an effect or transition, and Premiere is prone to “losing” render files…. you open a project and the timeline is back to yellow/red.
2) Keep things as-is. Under your program monitor, instead of full quality playback try 1/2 or 1/4. I believe this also controls the debayer/decode quality of the RED raw file, so you may find greater benefits. You may need to jump to full to preview focus-critical shots.
3) In Redcine-X Pro, just create ProRes copies of your footage like ProRes HQ422. There are multiple techniques to achieve an online/offline process using Speedgrade or Resolve later on in the pipeline.

Within Premiere only? Select multiple RED clips in your library, right click and select “Source Settings”. All selected clips will be affected.

JPEG 2000 is simply a codec. Did this theater give you an email or paper with delivery specifications? Can you include all of them if so? We can guide you through what you may need to do from there.

Sony NEXFS100U (or similar camera), Red Rock mounting and mattebox, Zacuto viewfinder. Not sure on the other monitor (Atomos Ninja?) or the audio box.
