Premiere Pro Export to Blu-Ray

I am trying to understand why when I export from Premiere encoding my work as blu-ray either mpeg or h.264 and import the files to encore cs5, why does it get rendered again or transcoded in encore. I thought the purpose of exporting as blu-ray is so that it doesn’t have to be rendered again in another program and it is ready to go on blu-ray. Doesn’t it lose quality being transcoded a few times. I hope this is making myself clear on what I am trying to explain. Can someone please help me.

Encore (or Premiere) does not have Smart Rendering for BluRay, hence the re-encoding.
Going from timeline to one time encoding you will hardly see any degradation.

Thank you for your response, is there anyway to stop encore from transcoding the blu-ray again and just go straight to making the disk.

Nope, just as i said before Premiere/Encore does not have SmartRender which is not encoding files that have not been touched.

Drag your timeline from Premiere’s bin to Encore’s bin. They should dynamic link, no render needed.

Hi John,

I’m not sure the other respondents are understanding the question. What I’m hearing is that from Premiere, you used Adobe Media Encoder to export your files as either “MPEG-2 for Blu-ray” or “H.264 for Blu-ray”, and then Imported them into Encore, is that right? If so, then the video should NOT get transcoded again. However, the .wav audio will be transcoded to Dolby AC-3, but that takes just a few minutes usually.

If this is your workflow, not sure why it is trancoding, but deserves further discussion I think. One thing to check under the hood in Encore is whether it is set to 1440×1080 or 1920×1080 – if the clips don’t match the setting, that might explain the re-encodes.

Could very well be that i misread the question.
I know there is a bug in Encore when it comes to BD H264 2 pass it gets re-encoded.
If its set to 1 pass it does not re-encode: it should say Dont Transcode.
