Time to upgrade to V12 I think, as soon as Leopard is out. 🙂

[Floh] “Anyway, when transferring via FireWire you get exactly what is stored on the tape, which in most cases is considered a benefit.”

So there’s no need to off-line at say 90KB and then On-line at 360KB – which is what I tend to do now with V8 – just acquire to the DV codec at 3.6 MB/s (144KB/s) which will effectively be the maximum quality DV provides and save a lot of disc space?

The codec list on the M100 website must be incomplete.

So if I should capture via Firewire and then edit using DV PAL there is no transcoding of the material at all?

In theory this should be better than capturing to the M100 MJPEG codec in version 8 and before – So 3.6Mb/s DV will look as good or better than 9Mb/s (360KB) M100 codec?

Absolutely, the option to import sections of clips as well as whole clip will be essential. I think some XDCAM decks have tape style jog and shuttle controls so this should be possible. Going tapeless should increase the options for sorting and organising material not reduce them.

    Thanks Michael

Apparently XDCAM is the fastest growing HD format so M100 needs to get a decent import solution worked out fairly soon. I’m looking at the XDCAM EX as well but the current workflow with M100 just does not appeal.

I hope we get a response from M100 about this.

So mask a solid layer and have it above the animated layer?

OK I figured it out just after I posted.

It looks like you set the mask path keyframes at the same time as the position keyframes and then they kind of cancel each other out!

Still a little obscure for such an obvious thing to want to do…

It’ll be mostly SD for a least a year or two but then more HD I hope.

I’ve got AFX CS3 and GridIron Nucleo Pro so I’m expecting real-time renders for most AFX comps with an 8 core Mac and plenty of RAM?

    Thanks,

I’m sure that’s right – I just don’t want to buy and then be a generation behind almost immediately! Although the current hardware is plenty good enough and way better than my current system so i guess it does not matter – may as well wait for M100 12 and Leopard though.
