What makes you say this? I’m able to select my non-optimized multiclip and ask FCPX to transcode media and it gives me the option of optimized media.
If yours doesn’t, then perhaps FCPX considers your base media to be optimized already.
As for exporting proxy, just make sure you have Use Optimized Media turned on in the preferences and you should have nothing to worry about.

Open your timeline index (CMD+SHIFT+2) and do a search for the clip name that’s in the browser. If it was used in the timeline, it’ll show up here.

I’m with Lance, Bill. I don’t see how versioning and export range are related. Export Range is typically used to send a portion of a project to another program for additional work. This would be a necessary feature if they intend to restore “send to” functionality to Motion.
Personally, I’d like to see it implemented in one of two ways: either a “work area” solution such as After Effects uses, or even better, a multi-layer range select tool.

Projects go corrupt usually due to no fault of the user. It can happen if the program saves data incorrectly into the project file. It’s just one of those things that sometimes happens.
But if copy/paste didn’t solve it, then you probably don’t have a corrupt project. I suppose you’ve trashed your preferences?
Also, how did you copy/paste to a new project? If you hit CMD+A and then CMD+C you could have copied the problem over as well. Make sure that you did a manual selection by lassoing.
Another thing to try. Delete the final clip in your sequence. Try to export. If that fixes problem, re-edit the clip back into the project (don’t undo or paste back in there).

Best thing I noticed was that the new interface has fewer buttons….finally. It looks a lot less cluttered. Their project preset window also needed a redesign, so hopefully it’s less cluttered there too.
On another note, do you think Dennis, the Adobe Guy knows John Adobe himself?

Try copy/pasting the contenst of your project into a new project. Perhaps you have a corrupt project.

What does the original clip look like without the filter applied? Also, have you tried to swap the order of filters? Order of operations can have an effect on clips that are being keyed.

– Convert it back to RGB ready for keying”Although, on the up side, Motion 5 has a pretty amazing built in keyer that may be as good or better than Shake’s legacy one (from Primatte IIRC).
Also, Motion is only RGB space, but it DOES give you individual channel controls. There are channel mixer and channel blur filters available for that kind of work.

That could be a clue in and of itself. The only time FCPX doesn’t allow you to drag a clip out of the primary is when you’re trying to drag something that isn’t allowed. I think that maybe when you select that audio clip, FCP is auto selecting a gap clip to the left (perhaps one that is even only a frame long). If the gap is to the left of that other connected clip that would explain both the swapping of clips and the reason you can’t drag it out.
I could not recreate with my own media, so now I suspect a corrupt project.

Interesting. It looks like some kind of bug. I’ll try to reproduce it if I can. Are there any more specifics you can mention about the audio clips? How were they recorded? Injested? What codec?
Couple of tests to run also:
What happens when you select the remaining clips in the primary and instead of using the shortcut, you drag out of the primary, holding down the SHIFT key to prevent it from sliding?
Also, Can you select everything and copy/paste into a brand new project and then try the same thing? (This is to test whether you have some kind of corrupted project).
