Not sure what your problem is. I have no problem moving the keyframes after I’ve created them. Select your clip and hit CTRL+V to activate the video animation layers. Click on the transform button and choose which transformation you animated with (probably scale). Grab the keyframes and drag them so that they expand over the transition media. Hit CTRL+V to toggle the video animation window down.

I can confirm this. I haven’t dug deep to figure out the reason, but some video captured even with FCP legacy using the DV/DVCPRO NTSC codec will show up as an audio only clip with no video. That’s what you were seeing. For some reason, X will not recognize the video track on the file.
Your solution and Nick’s both work. I myself used Compressor to batch convert the files into the same codec, and solved the problem that way as well.
As far as I know, it’s only an issue with DV footage, not with any other codec.

Cool test. Confirms what I basically already knew from experience (at least about the 3 main NLEs). Nice to see Smoke does such a good job, but then again, it is a finishing program. I’ve always thought Avid was good because the plug-ins were related (pulled from) Pro Tools. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but ever since AudioSuite plug-ins, it’s been the best for me.
I’ve always hated FCP retiming of audio. It was poor in legacy, and it’s still not great in X. Although it is better IMO. Whenever I needed to slow down, I would use Soundtrack if it sounded ok, but even it has pretty severe limitations. So I found a program called Amazing Slow Downer (I know, stupid name). It’s a little bit more editing gymnastics to get it from the NLE to Amazing X back to NLE, but it does a ridiculously good job for a very cheap price.

SHIFT+I/O to jump to IN or OUT point in timeline. Or use skimmer to check area roughly. Or if you need to move the playhead, do so in the ruler section of the timeline to avoid deselecting a range.

Western Digital is typically a decent drive manufacturer. It’s just that those My Studio drives are uber-cheap and aimed at people who are only using it to back up their itunes and photos.
I have a number of external drives (though I prefer internal for editing). Hitachi makes a 2TB drive with a cooled enclosure (fan). iomega has some nice drives (though they tend to be a little more). Just look for something with high speed (7200), quick read/write access, preferably cooled with a fan. Do some internet research on model numbers before committing to buy.

Well, I can’t be sure about crashes you may be having, but I will say this. The My Book Studio drive by Western Digital is one of the worst drives I’ve ever had the misfortune of connecting to my computer. I had one briefly and it was the source of all kinds of issues from spontaneous unmounting, to over-heating, to sleeping so that it crashes or locks up FCP.
I wouldn’t trust that model drive for anything.

I initially had the same thought when I downloaded 10.0.6 since it’s the behavior of the angle viewer. Took me a few minutes to find out where they put the event viewer. Not surprised it’s a little confusing.

In the second picture, it doesn’t look as if you don’t have the event viewer open. It looks like you are looking at the normal viewer.
The options for the event viewer are greyed out when the timeline is active and selected.
Open the event viewer (CTRL+CMD+3). You can also see the menu item near the top of the menu you have open.
Then select a clip in your browser (on the 2nd monitor I presume?) and scrub in the usual way to see the footage.
Just to be clear on this. The event viewer in NOT the same thing as the multi-angle viewer. They are different. In your first pic, you have the normal viewer with multi-angle viewer setting selected. In the second pic you still only have the normal viewer, but you are trying to access the settings of the event viewer.

You’d be having the same problem in any NLE because titles typically include only the text as a default. Here’s what you can do in FCPX to get your effect.
Go to the Effects Browser and click on the icon for Generators (it’s 2nd from the right I believe, I don’t have X in front of me). In there, you should find a solid color generator and make the color black. Lay that into your project as a connected clip above your video and narration (Q).
Select the black clip that you just added. Go to your Titles Browser and find your simple title. Double click it. This will apply the text as another connected clip atop your black clip and because you selected the black clip ahead of time, it’ll be constrained to the length of the black clip. Now you have two equal length connected clips above your primary storyline.
Edit your title and position it how you want.
Lasso both the black clip and title to select them both. Right click and choose: Make Compound Clip. This will combine both clips into a single connected clip.
Apply whatever transition you want.
Believe it or not, this is very similar to what you’d have to do in ANY NLE (with the exception of Avid). Also, if you have Motion 5, you can build a specialized title that can negate the need of a clip of black, by including it in the title itself.
