Final Cut ProX Transition/Key Framing Question!
Hello there!
I just started working with Final Cut Pro X and am needing some help with something!
When I put a cross dissolve between two pieces of video that are key framed for motion (so I’m zooming in slowly as the video plays in both clips,) how can I make sure the video starts zooming in as the cross fade starts?
Right now, the piece of video is still during the cross fade.
Does that make sense?
In Final Cut Pro 7, I would have just moved the key frames out farther, but I’m unable to do that in this version.
Any help you guys could provide me with would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what your problem is. I have no problem moving the keyframes after I’ve created them. Select your clip and hit CTRL+V to activate the video animation layers. Click on the transform button and choose which transformation you animated with (probably scale). Grab the keyframes and drag them so that they expand over the transition media. Hit CTRL+V to toggle the video animation window down.

Thanks for the reply! I’m able to slide the keyframes back and forth, but when there’s a cross fade from one piece of video to the next (which has been keyframed to zoom in or out,) the video ISNT zooming in or out where the cross fade is… Like, as soon as the crossfade starts, the video is still, whereas the rest of the clip is zooming in or out.
Does that make sense?

Try adding the incoming clip as a Connected Clip. Add Cross Fades to both clips and tweak the Cross Fade(s) parameters.

What version are you using? It sounds like you might have some kind of bug. I just tested on my laptop and confirmed that the animation continues into the dissolve.
Are you using the basic dissolve or some other specific transition? If specific, what’s it called? Some transitions are motion projects and by their nature may have strange results when combining keyframed effects in X.
A potential work around could be to place the outgoing clip as a connected clip and then extend it over the incoming clip and use the opacity slider to do the fade out.

I tested with the basic cross dissolve and it did exactly that. However, some transitions are actually Motion projects (unlike the basic dissolve), and I’ve noticed unpredictable behavior when using those transitions with other FX in FCPX.
