Of course you cut video the way MC wants you to. It’s not like you can all of a sudden edit with a node-based paradigm inside MC6. It just so happens that the way you learned to edit (on FCP I presume) is the same basic method that MC6 employs which is why you find it comforting in comparison to FCPX.
I’m glad you like MC6. I haven’t tried it yet, but Media Composer is a very good NLE in general. I’ve liked what I’ve seen in general from marketing materials and demos, but it does seem pretty buggy so I may wait a bit before trying out the trial. It crashed or reacted badly a couple of times in demos (one by an Avid employee).
BTW, I hope you realize that MC6 is NOT qualified to run on Snow Leopard. That’s not to say you can’t, but it may be far more unstable than running it on Lion.

Then you have to do it one at a time. You can make it a LITTLE easier by ganging the viewer to the sequence so that you don’t have to double-click each clip to load it into the viewer.
Put the playhead at the beginning of your sequence. In the canvas, click the top middle button and set the gang to “OPEN”. The clip beneath the playhead should automatically open inside the viewer. Click on the filters tab and delete/turn off CC. Go to the next clip in the timeline and it will automatically load in the viewer and the viewer will remain in the filters tab.
It’ll still take some time, but will make it a little easier.

There is a way to remove all Filters from your clips at the same time. Provided CC is the only filter you have applied, all you have to do is select all the clips in your sequence, hit CMD+OPT+V to bring up the Remove Attributes box. Check Filters, and hit OK.

1. This question depends on a lot of factors. What format is the source footage and is your sequence set to the same format? Is it 16:9 or 4:3? Are you making a DVD or a Blu-ray?
2. The answer to this question is the same as the answer to the first question. If you make a proper DVD, it can play back in either 16:9 or 4:3 depending on your footage and how you want it to look on the TV.
Your final question: “DVD Best Quality MPEG2 90mins” is the Compressor preset for encoding footage for standard DVDs. “HD H.264 90 mins” is the Compressor preset for Blu-ray encoding.

Hopefully you’ve sent this issue to Apple and were as detailed as you were here. This is exactly the kind of thing they need to see if markers and compound clips are ballooning the size of a project un-necessarily.

Well, hell. Unfortunately, FCPX won’t allow you to create a secondary storyline for overlapping clips. That would require another secondary storyline or else just leaving the overlapping clips as connected clips and moving the SFX below them.

Well in the first suggestion, a move is still involved but you get to move all the clips at once, making it much faster than individually moving clips as you go through your timeline.
In the second case, moving should not necessary. If you start with DIA/VO tracks by selecting them all, when you create the secondary storyline, it should default to the topmost audio position (right below the primary storyline (provided your VO/DIA isn’t in the primary storyline). It’s vertical organization is determined by the vertical position of the first clip you select in the project (because that’s where the anchor will be).

Since visual organization is your issue I’ll suggest a couple of things. One is the use of Roles. I know you said it doesn’t work for you, but if the SFX are assigned an SFX role, then you can select all of them in your project at the same time in the index and then hold shift and drag them past all the VO/DIA tracks. Do the same with music until they are all in relative order.
However, that might not be enough for you since you may not have VO/SFX/and music all stacked on top of each other at all times.
Instead of using a compound clip, you can select all the VO/DIA clips and add them to a secondary storyline. Do the same with SFX (unnecessary with music). Because the secondary storyline places gaps in between former connected clips, you’ll have a virtual track that spans your project all the way through.

Low shutter introduces a blurring effect to video footage. High shutter speed produces ultra crisp movement (ala Saving Private Ryan). That footage looked sped up to me.
