i’d have to agree with Matte
run through your narration and use the blade tool to cut it at natural pauses, where you could extend the pause.
use some natural sound to fill the pauses, or grab some ‘silence’ off of the voice track, to replace the dead air introduced by the artificial pauses you introduce.in the long run it would probably sound better than pitch shifting the voice track

if you’ve shot the footage at HDV 1080i60 then thats what you want to bring it in as. and if intend to stay in the HDV format then your sequence should also be set at HDV 1080i60.but do take a look at this document https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/hdvxdv_wright.html by the developer of HDVxDV and DVDxDV … he has some interseting comments

just to update …
well, we’re not exactly ‘Wing and a Prayer Productions’ but it would seem that the Teranex solution isn’t going to happen.
whilst it appears that a Terranex upconvert will give the best conversion, unfortunately the client isn’t going for it.
apparently they have seen an upconcert from the deck and are happy enough with that.hence my plan is to use the VTR’s upconvert (we’ll be using a Sony HDW series deck)
at this point, for full screen, i’m going to go with upconverting the 720 x 486 SD to 1920 x 1080 HD, then stretching it back up to the correct aspect ratio … basically, do as much of the scaling as posible from the deck.or, if i can convince them to go with the vertical letterbox look, then will just use the deck’s upconvert to 1600 x 1080 (edge cropped) and not use FCP scaling at all (… but they’re pretty set on full screen so the former is much more likely)

yeah, i believe the FX1 shoots 1080i60 (but its your camera, you should be telling me!)

the important thing is to ensure that your sequence settings match your clip/capture settings
if you are capturing HDV-1080i60, then make a new sequence (Cmd-N), open the Sequence>Settings…
