its funny this video should be getting talked about so much at the moment, because i’ve just bought a great new toolkit and wanted to know how much I should charge for building a house. what are you all charging?

you may be better off laying off to HDCAM and capturing that into your Mac. layoff with plenty of handle, and edit back cut to cut, always better to avoid invisible edits mid shot.
other than that, using the Meridian codecs are a bit of a crap shoot. compatability depends on which Mac and version of OS you re using … do a search here for “Meridian” and I suspect you’ll turn up a fair bit of info on this

try using insert/overwrite sequence contents instead. default keyboard shortcuts are cmd-f9 and cmd-f10 respectively (i prefer just to remap these to f9 and f10 so that they are the default for me)

can’t say i’ve ever tested the lower level functioning of the media manager code, but i rather think that would depend on your settings, as in Copy, Move or Use existing

just to clarify, use MPEG Streamclip to pull the media from the DVD and convert it to the QT format you want to edit in, all in one step. don’t just use it to convert the mp4 you ripped with Handbrake (forget Handbrake, thats just a piracy tool for ripping protected media as far as I can see)

you’ll probably be better off if you don’t get overly hung up on generational loss due to export.
use Export > Quicktime Movie w/ Make Movie Self-Contained checked, but Recompress All Frames unchecked … that should give you a resulting file just the same as if you had used the original media as per Media Manager.if for whatever reason you absolutely can not accept the export route then i’d guess your only option is to buy a new media drive and add it to your storage pool
