    Hey Thompson

I’m not using the MacCaption software and fully appreciate that what you’re really looking for is direct assistance from folks who have already succeeded with the hardware / software / workflow that is currently failing for you at the moment … but realistically, its possible those folks might not be reading this forum. So I’ll jump in too.

As far as I can tell from your post, you’ve added the captioning and transfered the captioned master back to XD disc. Can I ask how you handled the transfer to XD disc? It would seem that your engineers cannot find any captioning on the XD when played from deck, so the question remains as to whether the captioning was stripped during the transfer process to the disc or whether it is indeed being stripped during play back.

It would also be useful to know which deck/playback device you are using with this XD disc … that way those with that hardware might be better able to advise on device settings.

    Mike
You can’t directly apply motion to act on a group of clips as a single entity (although you can apply the same parameters to each member of a group) .. what you can do tho, is to nest those items first (Opt – C) and then apply the motion to the nest
    Hope that helps

    Thats where mine is.
    Hope it helps

Try creating a new OS X user account on your Mac, then log in to that new account and test the transfer app again. Do you still get the same errors?

Paul, you’ve mention the Calibrated codec a couple of times … its likely that is your problem. Installing that codec on an FCP system is going to cause nothing but pain as it will directly conflict with the IMX codec installed as part of FCP. That means you’ll end up with a system that can’t use either … it’ll just get confused.

    From the Calibrated website:
Not for use when Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Studio, or Final Cut Studio 2 is installed

Try uninstalling that third party codec, then see if things go back to normal

Heee … indeedy, nothing new under the sun, eh? Question is why hasn’t it happened yet? Is this where I get to say “Apple are you listening?” (in caps of course if I was going for the full effect)

what you’re describing is a “watch folder” ie a folder linked to a bin that automatically imports media dropped into that folder. you can set this up with a little applescript / appleevents and xml

in many ways, this is what the recently released Loader app from Digital Heaven offers … you should check that out cos its a real gem.

if thats not quite what you’re after and you have any coding chops then you’ll find that most of the grunt work has already been done for you and is freely available from Apple’s dev site as part of the sample code in the MovieAssembler app
    https://developer.apple.com/samplecode/MovieAssembler/index.html

Once configured properly, MovieAssembler monitors a watch folder for newly copied media files, using ID tag(s) stored as metadata to specify if and where a particular media file should be inserted into a selected sequence. All of these operations, while performed in Final Cut Pro, are initiated and configured from the MovieAssembler application.
