Effect>Utility>Apply Color LUT
Then you will be asked to load the LUT file you generated.
When you made the LUT be sure that you chose After Effects then you’re away.

This may not work at all but I’ve had similar issues when using vector layers and lights, so may be worth having a look at that. If you’re using shape layers try pre composing them.

I was comping using LOG C for a bit as well but it’s well worth applying a LUT to an adjustment layer at the top of your layer stack in my opinion.
You can generate one here.
https://www.arri.de/camera/digital_cameras/tools/lut_generator/lut_generator.html
The effect to apply it is in utility effects then you can just turn the adjustment off before you export.
Much nicer to comp with than untreated LOG C.

I think Alexa shoots at 12 bit Pro Res 4444 so 16bit already exceeds the colour depth of the footage even though I guess it would do know harm to set the project to 32bpc.
Also are you using LOG C? If so you can apply a LUT to the layer to get a fair approximation of colour which is really helpful if the footage hasn’t been graded.

Hi mate,
Are you using CC particle world.
Just tried it in your project with the radius set to 4400 and it worked fine.
Have you made sure the longevity is set to the length of the comp?

The puppet pin will create the mesh using the alpha channel on the frame you apply it on. There is no way for these pins to automatically move with the position of your video. If you applied tracking created using the in built tracker for these points then the mesh would warp with the video. You would have to apply the tracking data to the position parameter of the pin in the deform drop down. However, this will undoubtedly behave strangely.
If you want to use puppet tool then you really need to create a still at the point of impact and puppet that.

Hi mate,
We use the same Alexa workflow and you get that error message because your project is set to 8 bit.
Below the project bin on the left is a button called 8bpc click on this and change it to 16bpc and your done.

Hi mate,
I definitely do not recommend the puppet tool for this but if I was to then I would do the track using the in built tracker or mocha then with an expression apply that data to the pin so you can then also animate it.
I think using the puppet tool on keyed video is an interesting theory and something I may try as an experiment when I get some down time. However, I think you would need to get such an accurate track for your pins and maybe use the duik IK rig as well. Also could be very glitchy and any change in perspective and your about snookered.
I’d recommend using the bezier warp for this job or on impact export a still or create a freeze frame and puppet tool that.
Good luck

May 16, 2012 at 10:35 pm in reply to: subtitle with black square background behind textHi mate,
I don’t think there is a built in effect that will do this.
However I achieved an automated result by doing the following.
Creating another layer of black text behind the white subtitle text.
Make the black text slightly bigger than the white in the character palette and make sure the text baseline is set in the middle.
Pickwhip the source of the black bg text to the original white text.
Apply a fast blur to the black bg text set at 250 and turning on repeated edge pixels.
Apply a mosaic effect turned up to 1000 horizontal and 500 vertical.
Then finally apply a black light sweep set to maximum intensity and composite mode. You will need to duplicate this effect about 4 times.
That’s it… sorry if that is a bit confusing it was a bit of trial and error. There maybe a really simple way but I have not heard of one.
I’ve uploaded my project for you anyway mate.

Hi mate,
Firstly I would recommend recording yourself drawing the pictures like you mentioned as this means you can comp in your hand as a live action element later if you want.
Anyway in terms of software you should probably go for After Effects and use the built in Stroke or Write on effects.
Here is a tutorial.
