Instead of adding letterboxing in the filters tab have you tried adjusting the “Padding” settings in the Geometry tab to “Panavision 2.35:1”?

I’ve heard about it, but never used it or known anyone who has.
I think the bottom line is that as long as the video looks good and meets the requirements for the target output it’s good. I tend to get too technical and would love to geek out over software based compression analysis, but I think that at a certain point you are analyzing details that the human eye (and even more so the end viewer) will not perceive. Anything more than that and you’re splitting hairs.

You may be right. I see that this piece of Matrox hardware adds the codec for PC at least.

Sorry, I should have elaborated. I don’t have any content encoded with the Matrox encoder. I was told that the jumbotron system the content is being created for will require these specs.

Squeeze support was working back and forth with me though email, but hasn’t said anything in 5 days.

Work in ProRes and then output as needed for the festival. I’m not sure if they’ll want Blu-Ray, DVD, Digi-Beta etc.
If it’s 24p/60i run it through Compressor to remove the 3:2 pulldown. You’ll find it in the “Frame Controls” tab and it’ll say “Reverse Telecine”. When it’s done you should have 24fps ProRes.

Still working with Sorenson on this, but here is the latest info I sent them. Maybe this will let someone else know that there is an issue or maybe someone has a solution.
“All source video is exported from After Effects and has the following specs:
* ProRes 422 (HQ)
* 1280×720
* 23.976fps
* 2 of the 4 had audio at MP3, 48KHz, StereoThe two with audio came out at 23.976 as they should, but the two without audio came out at 23.95. Thinking that it may be an audio-related issue, I re-encoded the file that was initially causing problems. It also is ProRes 422 (HQ) file from AE. 1280×720, 23.976fps. It comes out at 23.952fps.”

Now that I think about it, it did seem more like a software issued that would need to be addressed by Sorenson.
Either way, I contacted support. The check box to “Identify deinterlaced blocks” is not something to assist with the actual deinterlacing process. Although it’s found in the filter settings and there is already a “Preview” check box, this is just another check box that shows you parts of the image that are already deinterlaced.
