Since its in Trial mode, the DSLR presets are not loading and h264 files are not recognized by Premiere. Just waiting on IT now.

Well this has been an adventure. The previous version of FCP7 that was on my old mac was actually the previous video producer’s license. So the company doesn’t have a license for FCP7. After a call to Applecare, only FCPX, Motion or Compressor qualify as Pro Apps. They say that registering QT7 Pro would not unlock the codecs. But I imagine since a fresh FCP7 install still works in Mavericks, a fresh install of QT7 Pro might also work too. I just want to get back to work so I’m going to go ahead and buy Compressor once I get internet access and an Apple ID.

So IT has a Quicktime 7 Pro license they want to install, since the lack of internet access (& App Store) remains. Would this be enough to unlock Apple’s Pro Codecs? Or do we need to get the one of the new Compressor/Motion/FCPXs? I can’t seem to find a list of features and codecs QT7 Pro would unlock or if QT7Pro qualifies as a “Pro App”.

Thanks for all the advice Shane. I think since it hasn’t had serial number validation yet, I’m running in trial mode, and this might be holding back some features too.

There should be a display brightness setting on the camera but it seems you might be saying that playback through the camera is darker than a few seconds before when you were shooting. Is that what is happening?

Both the articulating screen and being able to control flashguns make the T3i a valuable upgrade for video and photo. That said, the T2i still retains value with all its “7D jr” features. I bet we’ll see a $2-300 drop in price.

September 15, 2010 at 12:33 am in reply to: Most Compressed Editing Workflow Possible?

    Shane,
Thanks for the quick response. The process, when it was small, was done this way because there was little editing or graphics added. But it was already eating up all their processors and time anyways. This time around there are small edits, transitions, and graphics. With Apple Pro Res Proxy, would all the editors need FCP 7 import and edit natively a APP Proxy file? Are there other codecs (like maybe PhotoJPEG) that might also work?
