“Is Media 100 being updated?” is a good standalone question on its own, we’d all like to know, =).
“Is Media 100 being updated for a post-QuickTime Mac future?” – I assume the post Quicktime version, will be the same as the 64-bit version we’re all crossing our fingers for, and there have been hints might emerge if there’s sufficient demand for it.
Additionally, some people argued, despite Quicktime being abandoned in favour of AV Foundation (which has already happened btw), Quicktime would likely stay around for some considerable time, even if just as legacy software: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Media100Suite/permalink/1024153774280792/
“Philip Hodgetts thinks classic Quicktime will be around for a couple more OS revisions, Piers Goodhew thinks it could be around for another ten years! Steve Oakley meanwhile, is advising Media100 users start converting legacy videos to modern formats. It’s a lively side discussion in the H.264 thread over on the IMUG: https://media-motion.tv:8100/Lists/IMUG-List/Message/82729.html ” -
It’s been interesting seeing all the Atomos devices, that can take any HDMI or SDI input and record it to the ProRes codec.

Sounds like you’re good to go when your device arrives then, =). Let us know how it goes.
I never stopped to think a multi-camera edit is streaming multiple video streams, and may therefore be more demanding.

Does your system 3 in your signature – your MacBook Pro – have thunderbolt? If so, there’s a solution under your nose.
Have you verified via [Apple icon in Finder while holding ALT/Option]->System Information->Hardware->USB that your USB ports on your MacPro are USB3.0 and not USB2?
MacPro 4,1 is supposed to have x5 USB2 ports according to MacTracker, so I assume it needs a card to use USB3. Haven’t read this thread fully, but Google threw it up:

Crossing my fingers for you!
It would suck if you had enough bandwidth, and then copying the files over didn’t work again. >_<.
Bizarre bug you described earlier.Keep us posted, =).
P.S. – Hey – looks cool =D. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MRP1UF8U3EP/

Reading your post again,
your emphasis is on how the hard drive setup fares with Multi-clip editing.
I shall have to try out the feature, and see how much more demanding it is, =S.My only suggestion if you need faster drives, yet can’t use Thunderbolt, would be to consider SSD solutions, whether internal [PCIe?] or external.

I’m still using Lacie D2 Firewire drives – actually triple interface – Firewire 800, USB3, eSata. The last one I bought was a 3TB drive, for around £150. https://www.morecomputers.com/product.aspx?pn=301549EK&man=LaCie
I plug them into my MacBookPro via a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. Of course, you could plug yours straight in, since you probably have FireWire on your MacPro.
USB3 is supposed to be faster than Firewire isn’t it? So perhaps this isn’t a solution for you. Unless it’s dodgy USB3 support that is the culprit regarding your random problems, =S.However, I’m more a hobbyist. Last professional project I worked on was 2007, when I was working in Standard Definition with Media100i. Even then, I had some issue with drives – as the G4 I used only had Firewire400, not 800. I resolved those problems by using my internal hard drive for digitising, and then the external firewire drives for storage [i.e. as I needed more space on the internal, I would bump footage off to the external, and Media100 could read it fine].
That was 2007, so I too would be interested to hear of people’s modern setups, =).Hoping to do my first professional project again in June 2016, working with a tapeless workflow and HD footage, for the first time. =). So hoping my Lacie D2 is up to it! XD.
I don’t even have a RAID setup. >_<.
Some of the internal drives in my old G4 were setup as a RAID however – it was a second hand Media 100 System from Daryl Brown of Brown Cow Media – he’d put three internal hard drives into a raid. Bought off him in 2004 – good for the time, =).Sorry I can’t say – yes – solved that problem – I use X, Y or Z every day with Media 100 on awesome 4K projects, and it goes swimmingly. =).
Hopefully I’ll have more experience to share, as I get back into video editing, and can report how my Lacie handles what I throw at it, ^_^.
I should add I haven’t used the Lacie much yet. And some footage I bumped off of the internal to go onto an external drive actually went to a £60 external consumer-level Toshiba USB3 drive my sister got me as a Christmas present one year. XD. No problems on that so far – playing back Pro Res 720p footage (originally imported from a 4th Gen iPod Touch).

Who remembers the DMN Forums, =)….?
Haha…. ^_^

And there was me initially asking Marcus if it should be a LinkedIn group! ^_^ Heehee.
Actually, Marcus gave a great response, pointing out there’s no reason Media 100 can’t be all over a bunch of social media sites in this day and age.
As for your generational comment, Michael – I’m the MySpace generation, ^_^. Where’s my space on the internet gone? I miss my Top 8 friends, ^_^. Haha….

No worries about BVE, =).
Was great getting a message from you Michael, =).
Would be happy to phone sometime. It’s only an incredible attack, BECAUSE, it’s our beloved editing tool, =). Try not to take it too badly.
BorisFX could do with a kick up the backside to get a modern Media100 out there, ;-).[Still want a 64bit future for the program! ^_^].Not sure I can explain why The Creative Cow and Facebook are different, ^_^. Maybe because Ron Lindeboom and Mark Zuckerberg are different people? =).
What I will say is, Floh’s knowledge and advice is awesome, and this still appears to be the best place to engage him, and in general, resolve technical issues.
Are you telling me you feel it’s unnecessary duplication? As though the two forums are moreorless the same, and it’s annoying having to keep track of Media100 conversations across two websites?
You mentioned you prefer the Creative Cow. I try to share most of what’s on here on the Facebook Group too, so hopefully the audiences for both will grow.
