There’s a lot of talk about better integrated graphics coming, and I wonder whether that might mean Producer working well on Macbooks as well as MacBook Pros, – although I’ll probably still be getting the latter. ^_^

Looking forwards to doing some music on the move, as am getting one primarily for Logic Pro 8, but it’ll be fab to finally have a system capable of running M100 Producer. ^_^

Btw…I actually bought an ultraportable touch-screen PC for around £50 from eBay (it’s ancient mind) to use as a MIDI controller, running XG Gold for my MU10 Sound Module, and not to get too off-topic…but I’m so used to touching the screen now, I keep accidentally touching the screen on my Dad’s laptop downstairs. ^_^.

A colour touchpad DS-style would be kinda cool…but I must admit, I use so many keyboard shortcuts on my PC, I miss a lot of them when I use a Mac, and get annoyed at having to move the mouse a lot more. I still think the fastest input method for a computer is the keyboard. The only problem is, touch technology is inuitive, whereas keyboard shortcuts take some time to learn initially…but save you heaps of time in the long run. ^_^

And we all love our M100 shortcuts….Apple Slash. ^_^ Much faster than going to a tool palette, selecting a razor, going back to the timeline…*yawn*, etc, etc…
Anyway, that’s just a tenuous attempt to stay on topic. ^_^

I attempted several transitions using the feature but the effect ends before the cut regardless of the cut setting (example: center-over-cut).

Perhaps there is an issue I am overlooking?

I’m not sure I understand the whole cut thing though.
For instance, when you’ve two videos, and one is on the A track, and the other is on the B track, and they overlap, you get a cut point arrow, and then you double click the arrow to bring up your transition details in the edit suite window…and from there, choose Quicktime Effects or whatever, etc, and when you apply a transition, you get that nice little clip-esque rectangle on the timeline, between the A and B track (in a track labelled FX). If your transition is too long or short, you can just drag the ends of that, to make it as short or as long as you need, yeah?

To be honest, I’ve seen the cut position symbols in the edit suite transition window, but have never used them in my life. I always have everything set to the very last one out of the four options available (the one with the symbol showing the arrow towards the right, but not at the very edge).

So yeah, I don’t know everything about my system, as am self taught, not properly trained, but have never had any problems with the Quicktime Effects. So off the top of my head, I’d suggest looking at the range values, and the transition length…but if that doesn’t work, let us know, and I’ll try and have another guess. =P

Hi,=) Am using Version 7,and I found it quite a startling discovery that holding down the OPTION key gives some new options when going through the menu bar. In fact, just the other week, I discovered holding in CONTROL made a difference too.
For example, in the program menu, “Select from Here in Track”, just becomes “Select from Here” (i.e. ALL tracks) when OPTION is held in. Then if you hold in CONTROL, it becomes “Select Before Here”…=P…Fabulous.

Holding OPTION in on the FILE Menu, also gives a SAVE ALL feature. =P Wow!

Not sure if this stuff is in version 2….but is an example of something I went many months of using Media100 before realising.

As far as I’m aware, it accepts HDV over Firewire,
but when you do your editing, it’s in a different codec.

It used to be the case, however, that Producer only accepted HDV if you ran the program on a powerful enough Mac. So, for the most part, desktop users were okay, but laptop users couldn’t do HDV with Media100 Producer.

Now, all Producer owners can run HDV into their system over firewire, and if their computer is too slow to convert the HDV to a different codec in real time, then you run the footage in first, and then it gets converted after.

So from what I gather, that means the Laptops that couldn’t do it before, can now handle “deferred” HDV via Media100, which I presume means that the HDV goes into the laptop okay, but you have to wait a bit for a conversion to take place, before you can use it.

This is all just as I understand it, from reading other posts and asking around. I’m still running Media100i on OS9, so don’t have first hand experience of the new software.

In short – try looking to see if there are any “Quicktime Effects” selectable as transitions from the Media100 timeline, as my Quicktime Effects include a solar flare.
Try looking at some of the filters Boris themselves sell, in various packs.
And I believe a good number of After Effects filters will work in Boris RED anyway….so you can always get some for after effects, and then use them in Boris instead. Although there might be a risk one or two won’t be accepted, most of them should.

BUT…bear in mind I’m an out-of-touch OS9 user…so everything I’ve said is probably worth double-checking if it still applies. 😉

I also bought an ICE Ultra card, which came with a tonne of effects I could use in Boris, including Glow, Liquid Mercury, Light Blast, and some basic but often used geometric, and colour adjustment filters.
I don’t believe ICEfx are supported in OSX, but rather updated versions are included in some of the plugin effects sold in Boris products such as Final Effects Complete, and Continuum, or however they spell it.

But most plugins for Adobe After Effects, also work with Boris RED.
I know I started to use my favourite After Effects plugins in Boris instead, as it was quicker to use the Boris plugin within Media100 than exporting everything out, and then back in, etc.

But again, I got all my FXs with my computer, so I’ve never had to specifically seek any out. =/

Apart from the ICE thing, which I got cheap on eBay. ^_^ =P But yeah, that’s just OS9 I think.

I’ve got Media100i 7.1 running in OS9…so quite old,and not sure where it came from, since I bought the complete system second hand, but when I select “Quicktime Effects” from the list of transitions, it opens a dialogue box, with a number of different effects, and one of them is a lens flare. A primitive lens flare, but a lens flare nonetheless. And that’s without using Red, and without using After Effects. Apply it straight onto the Media100 timeline.

What is deferred HDV btw?
Am I right to assume it’s running the footage in, and then once in, rendering it into another codec before use?

I’m still a way off being able to afford a new apple machine, but when I finally do, I’ll probably get the latest Media100 to boot…as such, it’s such an encouragement to hear of all the new developments that keep taking place, so congrats on Media100 v12.6 =)
