On second thoughts, would anyone recommend that instead of going to Pro res I should edit natively using the Sony Cinemon plug-in:
“It enables MPEG to be transparent to FCP
Quicktime. You’ll be able to edit natively in FCP, with drag and
drop capability. All files will be instantly viewable on a Mac.” Says the infoADC

December 14, 2010 at 2:17 pm in reply to: Can’t transfer a project from G5 to new iMac.Another idea: if I put the hard drives from the G5 in to a firewire case and use as externals with the new imac, will everything work as before, or will it still lose the media path because it will be nested from the G5 root?
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the link, I will have a close look at that.
Is there any way around this, do you know? Or is a manual re-link my only option?
The project is so large with so many thousands of assets, I don’t know if I can manually update successfully based on my previous attempts.Would it help if I copied the media to a different format like ProRes? Would it give the new transferred files new file names which would resolve the problem?
I noticed there was a ‘use existing file names” option in the media manager window.ADC

December 14, 2010 at 12:17 am in reply to: Can’t transfer a project from G5 to new iMac.Do you also have clipped with the same name like “untitled” ?
Hi Michael. Yes, they are mostly named “Untitled”Are you using Media Manager to just copy? Are you asking it to delete unused media?
I was just trying to copy, as I didn’t want to lose the captured clips in their entirety.
I didn’t ask it to delete unused media.ADC

I am in a similar position and would also like some advice to Carlo’s inquiry.
Can anybody help answer Carlo’s question?

Plural Eyes for syncing audio and video. Check out this guys site, he’s sort of the Guru of this DSLR stuff and you can get discounts through his site:
https://philipbloom.net/2009/11/14/20-the-amazing-plug-in-pluraleys-for-1-month-only-also-sony-vegas-free-beta-now-out/I think there is a Canon plug in to help you get footage in to your Mac. Then you need to transcode to Pro Res. All the info is on his site somewhere so check his blogs.

did you check this link?https://www.macworld.co.uk/mac/news/?newsid=3233370
or more specs on t’Apple site. Or is your question not answered there?
I too would like to know of any potential issues these new machines might provide.
As far as I know, the SSD only goes to 250Gb — not much help to me.ADC
