Try capturing as a standard DV device, right now it is looking for a hdv signal that does not exist

November 1, 2008 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Looking for the right audio bag.

The perfect bag? I’m still looking – there are 2 objectives 1 bag for working, mixer, preamp, wireless etc. (that you wear) I have used the Portabrace and the Petrol both are good, the portabrace is more sturdy but the petrol is lighter and seems to have more access. This is a very personal choice, what works for me (I’m 6’6 250 Lb) doesn’t work for everybody. The 2nd bag is to carry everything else (cables, battries etc) that you need nearby but don’t have to carry all the time. I have a pelican case that holds my boom, Mixer (work) bag, and basic accessories so I only deal with 1 case for 80% of my shoots. Arrive, Strap on the mixer hook up the boom and I’m off.

The Kata is well liked but feels more like a messenger bag and I have heard good things about CAMRADE but have not seen them.
    Hope this helps,
    Drew

Fix your permissions and do a “Safe Boot” (these are standard answers, I hope it does not suck)

I am not sure if this would help but you can assign an Auxiliary Timecode to each clip.
find each clip in the transcription and assign the transcription TC to the original clip.
(it is in the manual – search Aux Timecode in help- each clip can have 2 aux timecodes) This would allow you to use your transcription timecodes.
    Does this solve your problem?

Boy howdy, if you come up with a script that can do that please send me a copy. The only way I know of is to pound it out clip by clip unless you want to bravely replace the audio on the original clips. (destructive)

    Sorry,

I was given the choice of a 3.2 w 4 gig or a 3.0 with 12 gig and I went for the 3.0. ram makes the computer happy. FCP is an integrated suite which means that while FCP is open you might export something to Soundtrack Pro, or modify some stills in photoshop, maybe do some moves in Motion, Ram gives you the power to open them at the same time.

If you Sync up all of the original footage, you can assign an auxiliary time code to the new audio which will match the original and at least it will speed up the process. Just search the FCP manual (in Help) for Aux Timecode.

You did not say if the 2 mics are recorded on separate tacks. If they were you can try only having one mic up at a time this can cut down on ambient sounds and phase problems (can cause a hollow sounding effect)

Check with Lectrosonic, they are offering deals on the 400 series block changes and they might able to change the blocks on the 200 series but you have to contact them.
    good luck,

The H4 does have line level inputs (you have to convert the XLR to TRS 1/4″ plugs) I have one and while the sound is OK I have had problems with basic operation and workflow. It does not retain operation settings when you remove the memory card which disconnects the batteries. (A SD card to USB adaptor is much faster for transferring files than through the H4’s USB output) The operating system is cumbersome and not friendly if you are in a hurry. I recently got an Olympus LM-10 and I am much happier. OS is straight forward, it is smaller and the on board mics sound better. You can also adjust volume without going into the menu. It has no XLR’s but my mixer has a 1/8″ stereo out.
    Hope this helps.
