I am using a Canon HV30 and I was suppose to shoot in HDV, however I did it in DV. I am currently sitting in my schools editing lab attempting to get the shots of the tape, however I am getting this error

    Unable to Initialize Capture Device
Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. You may still log offline clips.

This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.

my audio/video setting were set by my professor and or currently
    Sequence Present – HDV-1080i60
    Capture Preset – HDV
Device Control Preset – HDV Firewire Basic

I have tried everything however I am new to FCP, but not new to editing. Please help ASAP

Try capturing as a standard DV device, right now it is looking for a hdv signal that does not exist

Use the DV NTSC easy setup – since your footage is DV
