“BMD have just announced their 4K camera is now shipping and they’ve dropped the price to $2,995!”

now I’m very curious to see the price of the GH4 and that brick combined!
Also: The BMD4K can do recording on SSD’s and has great dynamic range and has a bigger sensor so I’d love to see a comparison of the image quality.

All in all in the end Black Magic might still have an edge over the GH4 unless the GH has a really competitive price tag.

from what I’ve understood you can record in cam 4k at 8 bit 4:2:0 and perhaps you can record hdmi out 4:2:2 at 4K. A lot of people already have equipment for external hdmi recording. The GH4 as far as I know doesn’t take p2 cards but brand new SD cards

“A friend once told me that the 3 most expensive words in the English language were “might as well” and I’m trying not to might-as-well myself into more than I really need.”

    amen to that!

I wasn’t going to read the article as I don’t use resolve (yet) but your comment made me change my mind 🙂

February 7, 2014 at 4:54 pm in reply to: 8 core or 12 core?

“Did the email come from “Apple” corporate, or from your local contact?”

it came from Apple corporate. It’s my first mac pro so I doubt they’d actually have someone call me personally. I figure myself in the category “bonus buyers”, people who buy the mp they didn’t count on… 🙂

Hopefully I won’t have to wait till february 28th!

I ordered my 6core D700 on the 19th and it has “shipping in february”

On January 30Th I got an email from apple(I was very excited to see that email!!) telling me it’ll probably be shipped in February and that they will give an exact date of delivery once it’s ready to ship.(but the happiness didn’t last very long…)

Don’t understand why they send me that email, as nothing changed in my status, is was “shipping in february” and still is…

Did you get an email like that?

    Hey Erik,

I just saw this video and remembered our little “discussion”, 7 minutes into the video he mentions mac pro’s are able to use as renderfarms by linking them over thunderbolt and according to this man it works very well.

It also puts things in a different perspective as you can now suddenly have a 24 core machine for $13000, and go up to… I guess 6×12=72 cores for $39.000? But in any case, 24 cores for 13000 doesn’t sound like a bad deal

here’s the link to the video (at 7mins):

I find it interesting to see an experienced editor feels the same as I do (not so experienced). I had to learn editing to create videos for my students because I don’t have the $$ to have someone edit for me. I’ve spent years learning and started in Premiere Pro Cs5. Once FCPX came out i gave it a try for a month, going back to premiere was funny enough like going back in time. It felt unnatural to me suddenly eventhough it was where I started.
Premiere Pro feels very technical and eventhough I’m not stupid in that regard I just don’t have the time to learn all of it. I felt that X was partially made for people like me, it works really intuitive. At the moment I fly through my timeline, what used to take 4hrs now takes 1,5-2hrs… quelle difference…
