June 20, 2013 at 8:44 pm in reply to: Cheap software that can use the Decklink SDI cardActually, Blackmagic Decklink works perfectly with Premiere Elements. However, it will require you to move some plugins and files into the correct locations in the Premiere Elements install folders.
I did test and verified this a while back with Premiere Elements 4 (on Windows XP) using a Decklink Studio card.
What you need to figure out is which Blackmagic Driver to use. Premiere Elements is a stripped down version of Premiere Pro, but they dont share the same version numbers.
Good luck 🙂

March 6, 2012 at 8:33 am in reply to: Encoding a Windows Media Player compatible DV25 .avi fileI can’t use the aspect tag because the parameters must work with any aspect regardless of what I feed it and it’s all done automatically, like a watchfolder.
Anyways, I have concluded that this works in everything but WMP (which I seem to remember have some problems with DV files and 16×9).
-vcodec dvvideo -s 720×576 -vtag dvsd -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 25 -f avi -acodec pcm_s16le -ac 2 -ar 48000

March 1, 2012 at 10:32 pm in reply to: Encoding a Windows Media Player compatible DV25 .avi fileI seem to be making some progress with these parameters:
-vcodec dvvideo -s 720×576 -vtag dvsd -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 25 -f avi -acodec pcm_s16le -ac 2 -ar 4
8000However, when playing back in WMP (which finally works) the 16×9 image is squeezed into a 4×3 frame.
I need to make my parameters flexible so they can take either 4×3 or 16×9 and keep the aspect ratio on the output files, even if it’s 16×9 HD downscaled to PAL DV.
Any ideas?

[jake blackstone] “There are no apps now, that utilize this newfound ability to write prores. And don’t forget, that as of right now, Prores writing is only command line affair…”
Really? At this very moment I’m encoding a file on my old Windows XP computer to Prores using Avanti GUI and a precompiled Win32 version of ffmpeg.
So, we have an app and a gui. 😉

Good news is that you can now write ProRes on a PC aswell.
ffmpeg has released an open source ProRes encoder and decoder that will work with *any platform.
Still very new though and not many have implemented it yet into their videosoftware.
You may also consider a multiboot system.

I still haven’t seen any Windows software that can output Prores yet. I have been looking around a lot…
However, finally there’s a free and open source route: ffmpeg has just added Prores encoding and decoding support:
That means Mac, Unix/Linux and Windows support for encoding/decoding Prores via the ffmpeg libraries.
Perhaps this is something that could be incorporated into Resolve for Windows?

It’s a Hackintosh, but it should be pretty simple to add an external powersupply to a Mac Pro. Something like this?
