What’s tour mastering codec on PC?
Posted by Mathieu Marano on December 18, 2011 at 3:55 pmI was wondering since there is no ProRes encode on PC what is the mastering codec/format you use on PC?

December 18, 2011 at 7:03 pmAvid DNxHD and the new DNxHD444 MXF codecs look pretty interesting as Pro-Res replacements. I think it would be great if Apple would smarten up and allow pro-Res writing on the PC but they probably wont.

December 18, 2011 at 8:08 pmNumerous bits of Windows software can make ProRes, just at a fee. Telestream Episode 6 is one of them.

Prores output is listed as Mac Only. -

December 19, 2011 at 8:33 amI still haven’t seen any Windows software that can output Prores yet. I have been looking around a lot…
However, finally there’s a free and open source route: ffmpeg has just added Prores encoding and decoding support:
That means Mac, Unix/Linux and Windows support for encoding/decoding Prores via the ffmpeg libraries.
Perhaps this is something that could be incorporated into Resolve for Windows?

December 19, 2011 at 3:43 pm[Jack Jones] “Telestream Episode 6 is one of them.”
Episode Engine running on Windows Server 2008 can encode ProRes; the desktop versions of Episode running on Windows 7 cannot.
I’ll second DNxHD and CineForm as good mastering codecs on Windows.
