You’re right. There should be a manual. But as long even basic things are changing it doesn’t to much sense for me.
I do need people like you to test the basics of the app in outer world.
The next version will have an XML parser integrated that will allow to view and modify the Motion XML’s template theme. That will allow at a later state people like you to build a small installer script.
There will be a new version by tomorrow.Andreas

Thanks, a very odd but very good point.
While the app is launching it searches the standard file path for FCPX to get the version of ‘FCPany’ – it’s similar to that what an updater from Apple would do.
Obviously your FCPX app is not at the ‘right’ place in regards of the search path the app looks for, therefore the app doesn’t find the FCPX app.
But finally it doesn’t matter somehow whether FCPX is installed or not or where it is installed.
I will upload a new version tomorrow which doesn’t care about FCPX installation paths.Maybe you can do some simple thing. Open the Terminal.app and drag the FCPX app to the terminal window. This will give a result/display for the installation path. You could send me result.

I agree that this ‘old fashioned’ stuff is pretty useless in todays world.
But not to long ago we used it to split lab rools using both burnt in keycode and timecode. Was very effective.Anyway, who is using lab rolls.

You’ve to understand the difference between a generator and an effect.
As far as I can see in the screen shot it’s a generator. This will create something which might be useful but not wanted. If you want TC per clip you have to create an effect, which is pretty easy to do with Motion.– Andreas

Ben,
It’s not a problem to create a text file which can be used with the Marquee tool in Avid – but as you said you will loose TC and duration.

Here’s something for Bill Davis.
Bill, I can understand that you are excited how good X is working for you. But I can’t get rid of the feeling that you imply in your responses, that most of any kind of complaints about X is based on a kind of ignorance of the user and that the user is not willing to learn X or is not willing to throw away old fashioned habits.
So it would be great to have a better description about what you are doing, which cameras/codecs you use, how the project/events are organized etc.
This will help others to understand your statements (others should do a better description as well). If I would like to bash, for example I could say:
FCPX only supports Prores as render format dot (which is true as you can see in the developer specs).
FCPX doesn’t support chapter markers any more – makes pre-post way slower when creating rushes for review dot
X doesn’t support 3rd party codecs/accelerators – and that won’t change in the near future dot
XML export and import is crappy – which makes collaborative workflows a nightmare dot
Multiclip is missing and can’t be implemented in a usable way with this X interface dot
etc.I do say that – but without the dot
And I try to help people to find workarounds and get a better understanding, and in some cases create scripts or little apps to help people feeling better in the X ecosystem.Anyway the forum has a ‘debate’ extension – so anything is allowed like in a normal discussion face to face.

Here some crazy thoughts how to bring back chapter markers.
Take a simple (one line) title, add it to the timeline where you want, shorten it, add your chapter name and apply a unique role – like ‘Chapter’. You can setup one and from there copy paste and change the chapter name, or use the find/replace title text and the end.Now export as XML and export the movie. Don’t forget get do disable the ‘Chapter’ role on export. During editing you just can topgle visibility.
Then use my XTE to extract the titles. Once they are loaded, you can use the popup to see all the ‘Chapter’ titles and save them to a chapter list text file. The quick hack I did for the app saves both an STL and a chapter file.
In Compressor use the Import ‘Chapter List…’ to import your chapter files.Though it sounds a bit complicated, in my oppionion it’s easier than with markers – both in FCPX and Compressor. In X you can have the old fashioned overlay and move ‘chapter titles’ easily.

No there is no chance at the moment to create(and use) chapter markers inside FCPX. 🙁
