February 5, 2012 at 8:07 am in reply to: Installing X & 7, same drive, what about plugins, prefs, etc?More or less I agree with Jeremy. Less in so far I hadn’t had any problems running both at the same boot drive, unfortunately for what ever reason you can’t run them same time cause they share a common process – this was much easier with legacy version of FCP.
Thinking about plugins, prefs etc. there is no problem as legacy and X don’t share any of the paths. Was different with legacy versions of FCP when you did run different versions on the same machine.

February 4, 2012 at 4:13 pm in reply to: question for today…. underlining text / underline in fcpxThe thing with underline is quite complicated.
Most of the Motion templates which do use text allow to use .rtf styled text. But quite often (independent of Motion or FCPX) some font style won’t allow a certain mixture of basic styles (plain, bold, italic, bold-italic) with the underline. Same as the outline style from rtf files will collide with the possible outline setting of a Motion template. This is something Apple has to check and resolve for a lot of apps (including their own) system wide.

“I thought it’s a good illustration of how using 3rd party software can be an advantage in some cases.”[Jeremy]
“Thats exactly how I feel, but some feel the opposite.
To each their own.”I totally agree.
Funny thing is that the lags in FCP (whatever version) on the one side created a reasonable business for some smaller developers — especially for workflows.
The other side was that the more developers chimed in, the more Apple got serious feature requests (and bug reports), this finally ‘forced’ Apple to be more ‘open’ over the time, and in many cases to implemented things into the app which formerly was handled by third party stuff. So even though the end user didn’t (doesn’t) realize, that any of the little tools available are helpful for him as a person these tools do change a lot.
With the App Store Apple got a much better control/survey of what is needed and liked. Therefore they will do listen (by numbers) to requests and needs of (selected) developers.
So third party apps may change your life without notice 🙂

P.S. Some of of you know that I know what I’m talking about.

January 31, 2012 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Some thoughts about Motion Template installation …Hi Simon,
There is a new version available.
https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/MotionTemplateHandler/Motion%20Template%20Installer.app.zipThis version allows to change both template and theme. Still no manual available – I’ve to look at 10.0.3 first as well as for the new Motion.
Below some screenshots which might help to understand:
