Dave I was assuming that you already converted the lensflare filter in PS to to something with alpha. So my bad, sorry.
Starting with 10.1.2 there were several people having trouble exporting to 4444, changing the project to 4444 always helped.

So how to make a PS lensflare transparent.
In PS create the lensflare you want on a black background. Select all and copy. Go you channels and create a new Alpha channel and paste. (you may apply auto-levels). Save the file.
Open this file in Motion and publish as generator.
In FCP X apply the generator where needed.

What do you guess where to set it? It’s in the project settings. 😉

Select the project, go to Inspector, select the Properties part, then the settings and set the renderformat to 4444.

Not only the render format has to be set to 4444 also the sequence/project settings must be set to 4444. Otherwise the canvas behaves like a black slate below all clips.

For Cinema you can leave the color to white.
You should add an outline to your subtitles.
Like Shane said you have to look at the font you are using. Each font can display in a different size. Use a font without serif like Arial or Helvetica. Don’t use bold style. Different from Shane I would recommend sizes between 24 and 32 for subtitles.
With Cinema don’t use the title safe area, use the action safe area.

With cards and credits it’s your decision what looks good.

That’s what I meant with “Optimized” 🙂

It’s a veeeery relative word.
In Formula 1 slicks are “optimized” if the weather is fine, if it starts raining you have to replace them. That was the same in Greece many years ago with just normal cars.

I agree that choosing the word “Optimized” is not a good choice and does lead to confusion or wrong hopes.
On another forum there was somebody who set a de-interlace filter to his x/yi files to convert them to x/yp format with double frame rate for edit. Once done he clicked optimized media and nothing changed. He expected that once he changed the settings the optimized media will follow his settings.

It does a real good job and you can apply it to portions.

For FCP X those C300 files are “optimized” since they can be handled natively.

As I’m on my iPad right now I don’t where to download from my server.

The app contains some Compressor scripts which might be modified by you to create 1:1 ProRes files in a batch.

You also can create a Compressor droplet to batch change the C300 files.

Try to select the clips you want to retime in browser and then share as Master File.
Then relink.
