    • Addressed an issue where exporting a subtitle file on some Windows systems would cause a crash

just wanted to add: this problem has been solved for centos linux installations as well. it doesn’t crash anymore!

    hi sascha!

i am usually making my dcps via finaldcp and there even if i max up the bandwith it will take what it needs.
usually the dcps are around 170 and 200. it depends on if there is grain/noise or not… never had a problem.

interop and SMTPE seems like overkill to me. if the source material is 24fps i do usually an interop-dcp, if there
are subtitles, i do burn them in. if the fps differs, i’ll do a SMTPE dcp.

i never had the problem that a cinema or festival could not play the 25fps smtpe version in the last couple of
years. but from time to time festivals do want a 24fps interop version just because they KNOW this works. most
of the time they can play back smtpe with no problem once they’ve tested the dcp.

at least that is my experience in europe.

    regards

i only made a quick test so far.

normally i do use finaldcp, but for testing reasons i also rendered out one dcp directly out of resolve.
when i played both dcps back with the finaldcp-player, there was no visible difference to my eyes on the
monitor. of course i need to render out some test-charts mixed with real world footage and watch those
    in cinema to be sure.

unfortunately the resolve dcp had only one center track instead of the 5.1 mix :(. i learned now that you
have to use the link audio option in the fairlight menu, when coping with 6 seperate mono-channels. then
    this should work as well.

on my beefy linux machine the encoding and wrapping of the dcp was pretty fast. although the naming of
the mxf files was a bit strange: no filename connection, just random characters and numbers.

to sum it up: it seems promising, i would definitely make some testing before using it for a client, you never know,
and this feature is quite new.

never had this issue. the 4k downscaled movie should look exactly the same from dpx or original.

think it has to do something with your boris vignette! btw: why using a plugin for a vignette?

  • +1.

fusion being able to provide masks or mattes for color room would only be logic.

haven’t been able to install vers15 on my office machine, but i am looking forward to it.
as most of my projects are ACES these days a proper color pipeline between the two would
also be more than welcomed :).

    thanks for the input.

you are right, there is a lock node option in DR15, i just checked on my laptop. at work i still have DR14, so therefore i didn’t notice. the locking doesn’t prevent the node from turning on or off, but in DR15 the cache files seem to stay anyway when turning the nodes on and off. if that’s the case bm, sorry and forget about my request…

my first one, still would love to print those movie-posters for me and the dop 😉

smart bins can be used to sort and manage your media. media management is inside davinci as well. never used script-sync and phrase.

i only did edit with 12.5 a long documentary once, and there were a couple of things i didn’t like. in avid or the like i like to duplicate the timeline/sequence just to be on the safe side after certain milestones in editing. in DR it did considerably slow down the project loading, saving etc.
but this seems to work now a lot faster and better, as everything you do is now written inside the db on the fly, very avid like.

so i would say the time has come for fearless editors to use resolve. there are for sure some drawbacks, depending with which software you are comparing, but there are many advantages as well.

as i am mainly a colorist, i have a beefy machine in my office. therefore i am not sure how hardware-hungry DR is nowadays for editing.

nevertheless i would love to read some experiences from editors!

you are right, somethings very strange happens once the font gets too small.

BUT: for subtitles i think i can live with that. point 15 is not option for subs.
