  • Funny Post! I was just talking about the tools with a fiend that we can use today, compared just a few years ago. I like FCP X. It’s like my Audi is better than your BMW. Ciao!

November 19, 2014 at 10:44 pm in reply to: iMac 5K or MacPro? Encoding questions..

Just moved the new Nuke Studio over to the 5K iMac. Compared to my 7 year old iMac, this machine is a good machine. Remember, the TB buses are not necessarily 6 vs 2, I would call it 1 HDMI vs 2 dual.

I think the 5K iMac will be a beautiful machine for editing. Like most of us, I’m behind the curve of the best technology, but this machine will, without out a doubt, do what I want.

I have also installed Squeeze on it, but I have no comparative results using it. Doubt that I will never, as I’m taking a giant leap from from my old set-up.

    Ciao,

Look into the products such as Crazy Talk 7 (animator) from https://www.reallusion.com. They could probably do, what you are looking for.

  • Cathal,

If you are using FCPX, check this video out or better buy the training from RT.

I had 4 cameras and audio from the mixer board. The audio from the mixer board turned out to be a disaster. But I recorded audio on all cameras + a separate Zoom (for just in case). That just in case happened! I synced everything to the the audio track (Zoom) and FCP X was real easy to cut with. Learn FCPX’s multi cam so you can get an idea of what can do with it. This project was with a local band with over 7 hours of footage (live). I three stationary cameras, one on the drummer at 90 deg., one of the whole stage from the right, and another camera from the left of the singer and base player. A goPro full frontal down below which I had on the guitarist and also moved around to get some shots of the keyboard player and inside the crowd.

It was no room for extra lights, so that turned out to be a disaster too. But, the Zoom saved me and the individual track controls where really helpful.

The sound is the most important thing The video can be manipulated with (transitions, CC, blurs, etc.) but if it doesn’t sound good…

Also, think about changing cards before each band starts to play. And get some help for setting up and changing cards. I didn’t!

But, it turned out fine at the end.

I’m interested in how you would solve this as well. Creating many different key words?

    Josh,

greyscalegorilla has one, that I’m taking right now. Starts with the basics and goes through a lot and ends with building a nice scene w/animation.

The really good thing, it is free! Very high quality of the teaching.

    Good luck

    Hi there,

Funny you should ask. Early in December me and our team watched a webinar. I immediately could tell that the two people doing the presentation were reading. It was so obvious. The story must come from your heart. Keep it simple and maybe have bullet points to trigger what you want to say.

November 16, 2012 at 9:21 am in reply to: 3 Camera Synced Multicam in FCPX goes out of sync

This what my timeline looks like in 10.0.6. It’s different as I used a split screen plug-in to create the project.

It’s hard to explain but I have my master audio and 3 video tracks going and also some additional graphics. I then had, for example, two/three/four images of the singer/songwriter from different camera angles all synced up. Lay down the audio, sync one camera angle first, then try two…to get a hang of it.

It should work. Sorry if I can’t be of any better help. I struggled at first with multi cam editing but I got a hang of it. Maybe someone else has some good advise. Best advise, try out some training.

I haven’t done any multi cam work in the new version. But back in February/March I did a sync with 4/5 cameras. For over an hour of footage of a rock band. I used my master audio (separately recorded) as a base and synced all cameras to that audio. That was my approach and it worked our remarkably well. I think that was in 10.0.3. Ripple training has some good training videos covering this.
