Sorry, but I just think it is INSANE to make a new storyline just to make an easy audio dissolve. It is symptomatic of FCP X to make such an essential thing into a complex and timeconsuming thing. COME ON !

I am quite sure FCP X can hold up in a one-man workgroup. I am talking big productionhouse (from 6 editingsuites and up on a SAN). Don’t get me wrong. I love that more people get tools that make them edit more efficient, and it is great that anyone can make a movie. But please don’t forget that there are differences between good editors and bad editors, and to be a good editor you need a good tool

Sorry if people felt that the posting was inappropriate. It is just a bit frustrating to see that everyone is switching away from FCP, and nothing has changed the last year. The betas are too little too late.
I agree that it is fanatastic that more people will be able to edit and it is democratizising the tool… but on the other hand. This was just what FCP 1.0 did, and it managed to get all the pros on board as well.

April 17, 2012 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Apple tells about features coming in 2012 to Final Cut Pro XJust my thoughts exactly. Being very dissapointed in FCP, and looking around for an alternative app. I introduced FCP at the broadcasting agency I am working now and there are about 30 seats with FCP running nonstop reality productions.
I have the same experience with Avid than you. Trying to relearn what I left years ago. Trying to overcome some of the strange shortcomings (reconnect ?!) I have given up on fcp and people are getting rid of their fcps.
It’s a shame and I have a hard time undertanding that the FCP team have screwed up so insanely.

January 16, 2012 at 9:59 am in reply to: Batch relink Ama Footage (just like in FCP ?)Ok. So my friend was wrong about a lot of details concerning the project. There is no AMA material (they were told that was a bad solution).. This is what he wants to do.
He has an Avid project on one imac, and the footage on an external firewire drive. He wants to use a laptop, connected to the iMac with an ethernet cable, using the same disk (shared disk), and do logging on the powerbook at the same time as he is doing dubbing on the other mac. (this is an arabian documentary). They will use a copy of the same project on each mac, which uses the same footage on the shared external drive. Is this possible, recommended ?
Will it be possible to merge these projects together later, so that the logged info will be available in the same project as the dubbed (the dubbing will be an extra audio track in a multiple timelines)
Another thing that confuses me a bit is how you work with projects in Avid. You only work with one project at a time, and what I want is to open the one project on the iMac, and save it to my powerbook so we both work on identical projects. What is the procedure for doing this ?
Avid is great for sharing projects, multiple people working at the same project at the same time, but I guess that you need expensive setup to make this happen ?
Sorry for stupid questions. Coming from the FCP side.

January 15, 2012 at 4:21 pm in reply to: Batch relink Ama Footage (just like in FCP ?)Thanks for a very detailed description. I will give it a try. Really strange that this process is not more smooth. As long as it works I am fine (almost)

November 10, 2011 at 5:09 pm in reply to: Another reason why I’m glad to see Resolve on Windows…I think the Mac OS is clearly unrivaled, the perfect balance of good code base and well thought out UI. But the core dependency right now is FCP7/QT/Prores support. And thats gonna be around better or worse for the next 2-3 years.
AMEN to that. I love my mac, and some of the pleasure of edit-color correct will disappear if I will have to use pc’s..
