thanks guys,
I am not using NTFS drives often, we bought a drive to collect footage from various people filming this cycling game in town and most have pcs, so i thought i ll format the drive in NTFS and give it to them to copy their data on it then i ll edit using FCP on my mac..(material ll be SD btw.)
But maybe its better if i can find a driver for pcs to write on mac drives and i dont mess on my side.. (?) -

November 30, 2009 at 3:15 pm in reply to: multitrack audio sequencer for soundtrack creation ?Hi Ty,
I am also not very comfortable with STP, i dont use it much for multitrack mixing, mostly for processing audio files, It doesnt support soft synths which could be useful at times. But so far its the closest to the clip-based effect concept i am looking for.. Plus it integrates with FCP and i can send my FCP timeline with all audio tracks into it.. Could i do that with AVID? -

November 17, 2009 at 9:18 am in reply to: Keyframed stills stopped showing (black in canvas) after renderingUpdate to FCP 7 or just the 6th version..?
To be honest i am a bit afraid to update as i ve done it in the past and new problems arose…I ve been following the “if aint broken dont fix it” route so far but maybe now it is broken! Most certainly these issues are bugs since the same stills played fine earlier in the project..
Any other ideas?
thank you -

November 15, 2009 at 5:09 pm in reply to: I have a still image render problem in FCP6Very similar problem happens here with still images. I ve been working on this long project for a while, timeline gets build up with video, images, effects etc. There are some keyframed images that wont playback at all when rendered. Blackness..
I ve been doing tests with a particular psd image, converted it into tiff, jpeg, deleted rendered files, repaired permissions…no luck..I dont want to trash my fcp preferences, yet..
Also issues with couple simple text clips with basic motion keyrames, will play half their duration then black..
Any ides whats going on..I ve had this in the past with another machine and fcp6, whereas problems like this start occurring once a project gets complicated..
Running FCP 6.0 on intel iMac, 4Gb RAM, media sits on external FW800 HD, render folders on main disk inside iMac.

I use an 24″iMAC 3.06Ghz Intel core 2 Duo with 4GBRAM..
I bought it last spring and it has 1xFW400 plus 1xFW800 so i guess i am lucky i got it then cos now the FW400 port has gone..I dont need to connect cameras on it and so far i edit using DV footage on external FW800 drive. As i described on another post of similar nature i recently edited a 2h multicam show with 4cams with no problems at all. I cant say much about render times, when it renders i make myself lunch or something! (i work from home).
The screen is really nice..Another thing i love is that its silent..Very important for me. Dont forget the remote control..nice touch..
However i am a bit worried of what ll happen when something goes wrong with it..I cant just replace the DVD drive myself can i! And no there is no apple store in my town..The MAc pro will do things faster and offers space for more HDs and plenty of ports for cameras etc..With just one FWport on new iMacs i would think twice..If u can live with 1 external HD maybe an iMac will be enough. Dont forget u can daisy chain more HDs..

October 15, 2009 at 8:02 pm in reply to: exchanging XML files..Need to reconnect files each time…Thanks Matt,
Well we use XML files as in this way we can just exchange 1 sequence which can be imported into the existing project..He might be working on some other sequences in his project so sending him my FCP project can mess things up.What we do right now is copy paste the sequence we want to share into a new FCP project and send that instead. Then he copy pastes the sequence into his project..But still every time we need to reconnect files..And even when we tell FCP to search and reconnect, we still have to point each type of media (video, audio, pics) in its directory for FCP to find the rest…
We did exchange XML files in the past with the slash symbol in clips’ names and never had a problem with that…
What i would like to know is if there is a way to use the XML without having to reconnect files..
As said, Folder structure and HD name are the same on both machines..

I am already installing again!
It seems like he had dragged the application on the desktop and then…erased it by accident..
He is not using time machine..so..
thanks anywaybtw i found a utility that uninstalls fcp and all its components..

Forgot to say there was some footage from a 4th cam which i also used.
So at times i had 4 DV video streams running plus the video on my editing timeline (5 video streams in total). Playback was fine even when scrubbing fast.. -
Hi Rob,
I own an Imac at 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM and the 512MBNvidia card (bought last may)
and recently i edited a live show show shot with 3cams. Footage used was DV format and i used the multicam feature on FCP using the internal HD. I had no problems at all. I didnt use any fancy effects apart from a couple of Motion made things (i used the Motion project file within FCP – didnt export video from Motion) where there were 3 video clips playing at the same time plus 3 (i think) object generators (sorry if i dont use the right terms) on top of those..with 1-or 2 effects..All played back fine. The whole project was over 2hours long and i never came across any problems due to CPU overload..
It took about 5hours (not sure) to export to MPG2 using compressor (One pass at 7Mbps)
When editing i had no problems on playback while moving fast back and forth through footage..And the 24″ screen is really nice! The machine is silent and neat. I now have an external FW800 drive..So far so good!
Hope that helps…
