September 20, 2011 at 1:51 am in reply to: Can’t fit onto dvd by 400mg. How do I compress to fit 8.9gb onto 8.5gb disc?I am having this problem again.
audio is ac3.Although, this time I’m trying to put 9.6 gb onto 8.7 – should that be possible?
Every time I bring the bit rate down in properties, it still says it’s too big, even if I bring it down to 2.something! When does it ‘reset’ and accept the setting? When I try to burn?
I have 10 video tapes and if I put them through the video recorder and make dvd’s I fit 2 onto every 8.5 gb disc but if I capture them into computer (throughy pinnacle mpeg2) then put into dvda, I cannot make it fit. So I am doing one per disc which is really really annoying. This work is for my boss – any help appreciated.
I think dvda isn’t recognising that I’ve changed bit rate or am I doind something wrong?
thanks. -

September 16, 2011 at 1:05 pm in reply to: xbox to vegas to youtube what is the best render format?Ok we’ve bought it and we’re stuck.
Can view the xbox and play it (loop through the hd pvr) however cannot get any sound from the tv or the turtle beach headphones. the headphones have only one spot to plug into on the tv and there’s nothing. tried changining xbox settings from ‘both’ ‘headphones’ or ‘speaker’ but can’t get any sound. is it to do with the cables going through the hd pvr?

September 11, 2011 at 3:03 am in reply to: xbox to vegas to youtube what is the best render format?Hi again,
So finally I succumbed to pressure from son and was about to buy a Hauppage pvr 1313 when I realised it doesn’t ahve a hard drive correct? I thought it was like set top box but now realise it’s more like an external capture card so that means I would have to have my pc right next to the xbox – correct? That changes things because the pc is shared by all and physically can’t fit next to the xbox so now I’m confused as to my best option. If I’m understanding correctly, my only option now would be to find a laptop strong enough to handle the job of x-box to VEgas and now we are back into big bucks.
The only think I can think of is that we have a HD DVD recorder Sony and I thought I could hook it up to record from the xbox but whenever I try I get an error message (something about it not being able to read the format?) and screen goes blank with a little strip at the bottom.
So question = is there a way I can go from xbox to VEgas without having a pc connected?
Thanks
ALSO – where is best to post about editing software classes/websites/careers for my son? I’m in Australia and Ic an see it’s a passion of his so need to start looking into what subjects he should be doing in upper high school and where he could go after high school. thanks.

September 3, 2011 at 4:41 am in reply to: Can you break a video strip into 3 separate ‘renders’ in one go?yes thanks sounds like i’m on the right track.
will look at womble.
i record on a dvd recorder to disc, then disc to computer which is a pain but I don’t know how to go from dvd recorder DIRECTLY to my computer after the fact. i.e. I can do real life recordings through a pinnacle box however that slows my computer down so much that I can’t do any other work.
If I try and transfer from dvd recorder to computer via hdmi, I lose captions (which I must have).
so basically, this is another question now but think i’ve already asked it. don’t know how to go directly from dvd recorder hard drive to computer AND keep captions AND do it after the fact (i.e. not live).
Sorry it’s morphed into something else (that I’ve asked previously but if you want to chime in please feel free.
I have a stb but when i turn on ‘record’ the captions disappear and I am told that I can get them after dumuxing etc but I am in a workplace that that copious amounts of subtitling to be done by little ol’ me only so I don’t have the time to be trying to figure out the whole muxing/demuxing situation. plus the stb will only copy to a fat32 drive and my 1tb drive is esata so i’m using ‘little’ usb’s and really not getting anywhere fast!Oh dear, there’s my whinge.
thanks for your help. -

Pretty sure it’s .ifo – it’s small but if I drop it into VEgas it seems to bring everything elise in ‘in order’ if you know what I mean, without it, i have to bring in individual vob files.
Either way, I’m probably asking the quesion the wrong way.
Say I have a strip of video/audio that has come from a tv recording. I want to cut it into three sections, render them, then burn them to a dvd like 3 tv shows.
Can this all be done through Vegas? At the moment I do rendering (individually) through Vegas and burning to disc through Architect to allow a menu.
Does that sound correct?
Thanks.

Thank you that has saved me so much time!
Although I must admit that I know the audio pattern of advertisements off by heart now…..
Thanks again. -
Thanks for your reply.
I can’t seem to make part of a text box italicised. I can only choose the box and then italics are doown the bottom near centering and colour etc so the WHOLE box goes italicsed. Even if I copy the box and put another one that comes up at exactly the same time (i.e. not overlapping but I can do top and bottom of the screen BUT all formatting mus stay the same for both boxes. I can’t do anyhting different.
Can you do a large box and have part italicised?
thanks. -

this is 3 hours of footage which has come to me on vhs and they just want it back on DVD. family footage, nothing official i’m nottoo worried what format I render in.
I’m trying to give it on one dvd instead of two but the whole thing is now taking forever. took 3 hours to capture, then nearly 3 hours to render in VEgas.
Now I just want to burn it and be done with it.

Thank you.
I’m still stuck.I opened in Quicktime and tried to ‘save as’ and apparently I have the ‘cheapie’ version and I can’t ‘save as’. I know my employer will not buy new software.
I don’t really understand about demuxing or what a lossless avi file is but if it’s just a matter of ticking certain boxes within virtualdub then program then I can do that.
Do you have the time to tell me in layman’s terms what to do with it in virtualdub?
I’ve got onto the people that I bought the mp4 from and they said that no-one else has this problem so it must be a Sony thing or it must be me! …..maybe true but you would think they would help me…
frustrating.Anyway, if you could help me to get this program back into the correct size I would really appreciate it. It’s for a classroom situation.
