Hi
I have a MBP but I’m using my pcie slot with an eSATA card to power my external LaCie HD. So I’m up-the-creek?See my post about about the new cameras I’m thinking of getting. So I guess I’d have to use the FW400/800 for my external HD to get either the P2 or SD/SDHC into the computer?
Problem I was having is that my external HD in the FW800 and my Canopus ADVC100 in the FW400 things didn’t work too well! My external monitor wa freezing up. Hense the eSATA card.
Thanks

Hi
Just came over from the Vegas forum and found this thread. I wanted to put my 2¢ in.I also do Legal Video Work. Most of the folks usually do 1 of 3 things at a deposition. Also be aware that there is NO editing on a deposition!
1. FW directly out to a mini computer what has a Digital Rapids card (or the other popular one, Can’t remember the name) installed. That will make the MP2 on the fly.
2. Use a stand alone DVD recorder something like the Panasonic ES25 (discontinued but you can still find new ones) that will allow pausing. Only thing you got to do is finalize the DVD when done. Nice thing about that deck is you can pull out the DVD and pop in another and finalize them after is your depo runs over 2 hours.
3. What I do, Shoot to tape (my DSR-250) with an nNovia HD recorder system. I don’t do VHS ot DVD at a Depo.
4. What I did but it only works in a Windows enviroment. Camera FW out to a laptop with DV-Rack installed. Still give you digital files as a backup. Now DV-Rack is On-Location and in the Adobe CS3/4 suite.

Hi Beazly
You posted your question in another person’s thread. No-body will see it. You need to go the the main page of the Sony Vegas forum and start a new post.

Vegas Pro! I’ve had instances in my work where I’ve had my video track and 10 or more tracks directly above with text boxes (generated media) directly above minulipating each and every one.

Hi
In addition to what Terry mentioned above; personally I wouldn’t let the computer go into hibernation, especially when rendering. In fact I have al screen savers and hibernation’s turned off. But then this computer is only for video editing. I never go on the internet with it. I just turn off the monitor overnight. I see no need to do this with a desktop workstation. If it’s a laptop your working with, disable all of it. With a laptop you only need some of that stuff while on battery to consrve power.
Secondly, try defragging before you render. I’ve found that to be a problem in the past, and defraging has helped me after working on a bunch of files.

Hi Morty
One word of caution here. Be careful of copyrights if you’re gong to use any of those clips in a published project.
I grab YouTube stuff especialy training and how-to’s but only for my own personal use. I never use any of those in a published project.
That KeepVid site Jon mentioned is a great idea because you can save the vid’s as MP4 and much higher quality than FLV’s

Hi Robert
Sorry, no can do AFAIK. I recently bought a MacBook Pro and Final Cut Express. I’m working on a project where I have to collaborate with a fellow who ‘was’ using FCP5. He couldn’t even open my FCE *.FCP file. He had to upgrade to FCP 6 (Studio 2). And FCE and FCP both use the same file extension.
I’m really comfortable with Vegas so I wanted to do my work there. We looked for all possible solutions and I was all over the Apple forums. Since he upgraded, we’re doing fine now between FCP and FCE. But no way with Vegas. You can’t export an XML file rom Vegas. We had some posts on this quite recently.
I suggest you start learning Final Cut! 😉
