    Fair question…

But I have tried that, but ive been getting nothing but errors in media encoder. I have tried numerous settings, but its just really flaky and its giving me error after error.

And for some reason. .. the Resolve encoder just works perfect for me..

These are the ones i can choose from for my 4K footage

    Avid DNxHR 444 4096 x 2160 4:4:4 10 60 3730
    Avid DNxHR HQX 4096 x 2160 4:2:2 10 60 1866
    Avid DNxHR HQ 4096 x 2160 4:2:2 8 60 1866
    Avid DNxHR 444 4096 x 2160 4:4:4 10 24 1492
    Avid DNxHR HQX 4096 x 2160 4:2:2 10 24 746
    Avid DNxHR HQ 4096 x 2160 4:2:2 8 24 746\

    My footage is 4:2:2, 10bit,, 490mbps and 50FPS

So the only one that ticks all my source footage’s boxes.. is the
    Avid DNxHR HQX 4096 x 2160 4:2:2 10 60 1866

    right?

Ah that makes totally sense.. the source is 4k so when it make the footage fit in a UHD resolution.. you would get black bars on top/bottom.

    Damn, kinda obvious…

follow up question.. if i want to convert my FS7 footage to DNxHR.. (lossy/lossless)..which one would i need to choose?
I was thinking DNxHR HQX… but that makes my files 3 times bigger..so im thinking that might be overkill and I need a lesser codec.. but I dont want to loose quality..

    please advise.

Yes I am… is that the problem?

The source material is 4096×2160 pixels
The exported DNxHR file is 4096×2160 pixels

so they’re the same. So the timeline sequence seems to have the right resolution, but it just adds the black bars within that resolution …
And like i said before…as soon as i import the media..it already adds the black bars on top/bottom. And it doenst seem to cut off the footage anywhere… so that’s why im thinking its a problem with the aspect ratio..

  • Hi Greg,

    Thank you for you reply.
I am more than willing to do that, but Im not entirely sure what custom proxy setting I should use.
I think DNxHD or something would work best.. But im not sure which one I should choose.

I wanted to try DNxHD 36….but i can’t find that in the dropdown list.. So any alternatives?

    thank you in advance..

  • Never mind, i found a way to do it. I made it into an action.
If anybody wants it..let me know..

  • Ok great guys, I know what i can try now..thank you for your help!

  • Thank you for your answer

So there’s no way to do this with proxies then? Have to proxies on dropbox or creative cloud..do the edit with the proxies on whichever location..and when its done.. connect it to the real files that are on my desktop (on a local folder, not in the cloud…?)

    thanks!

  • Thank you for you answer Richard,
It makes perfect sense.. so work your way from the source to the destination basically.

Its just still unclear to me how to set the proper output levels of the receiver of the wireless set. Because the only place i can SEE those levels bouncing up and down..is on the Tascam.. but then they are already affected by the input level of the Tascam right? So are you saying because there’s no way to visually see JUST the output of the transmitter (without it being affected by the Tascam level)… i should put the transmitter at 40% of its range?
The output of the transmitter can be set from -30DB to + 12 DB… 40% from the bottom off, would be -13.2… That’s not a setting..so I should go for -12DB on the transmitter..and then adjust the levels on the Tascam to proper recording levels? Is that what you mean?

And lastly a final question… Is it correct to say that adjusting recording volume is preferably done by the input levels on the Tascam..instead of the gain settings? So.. I first turn up the levels all the way..and if that’s not enough i set ‘gain’ to high in stead of low.. Or do I start by putting the gain on high…and then turning up the levels?

Sorry about these newbie questions and my poor English.. im from Europe 🙂

    Thank you!
