Thank you! I went a year without having this problem and it was loose- I sent it away for repair a year ago (disassembled). The repair shop put it back together and the problem didn’t occur. They sent it back to me and only recently did it start to happen again. I just tightened the top and problem has vanished again. Any recommendations for a replacement soon?

I asked the same question at this year’s NAB and I was told that it was not possible. It is possible within the sequence, so long as you add edits on both side and do a double sided trim on your selected media within your group clip. I did it tonight in 6.0.1.1 while still in multicamera mode.

July 5, 2012 at 4:54 am in reply to: Spinning beach ball after insert when returning to sequenceYes, this was a transported clip (partitioned because of length) from a JVC mpg4 file. Darn it. I tried transcoding to a different drive but still the same problems. I am finding that most of my long clips are responding in a similar fashion, especially when I am working in group clips/multicamera mode. I wonder if it is part clip/part computer or AVID issue. If anything else comes to mind, please give me a shout out.

July 4, 2012 at 7:50 pm in reply to: Spinning beach ball after insert when returning to sequencesplit the sequence into two parts and, sure enough, one sequence has the beach ball and the other does not. consolidating the “bad sequence” into new media and hoping that works. will let you know!

May 24, 2011 at 5:31 am in reply to: Quicktime files recorded in JVC become unsupported media filesI shoot in mp4 for avid but I experienced this 3x in the last week. The first time was a 1/2 hour clip which the camera indicated a “restore media” error. I was not able to restore the clip in camera but I was able to import the shotbdirectly into the avid. It was segmented into 3 segments, 2 with identical lengths. However, no harm done.
now, I. Am unable to access several long clips that were shot a week later. Many clips from the same cards were imported successfully but these missing clips, although on my exterior hard drive, will not import into avid. They are segmented, I.e 703-01, 703-02, 703-03. The files on the exterior hd indicate that they are large files so I am HOPING that I will be able to recover/access them. Argh. They are, of course, my most important clips. In any case, I do not think this is a qt-specific problem. I think it is a file wrapper problem but neither of my problem clips indicated a “restore media” error. HELP (please).! -
I am also thinking that your shutter speed may have been the problem.did it appear this way through your viewfinder while you were shooting?

helpful hint: throw the matte key logo onto a lower video track (i.e. V2) so that you can see it when creating your title (i.e. in V3). If the logo needs to be in front of your title, you can then move it to a higher track once the title has been created.

Both strategies are good but there is a lot of free training this year by Sony and in the Post Pit. Last year was the second year that I went through the PPW training and, although it was good, it doesn’t change much from year to year. I did learn a lot about chromakey techniques and marquis and some great tips for lighting but this year, I’m going to use the 1K to get taxis back and forth to the events at Hard Rock and Tropicana. The PPW training is great if you don’t otherwise have time for development/refresher training but it seemed to me that most people who attend are producers looking to pick up a few basic production tips, not advanced-level production folks. I’m also looking forward to playing with cameras and the free booth presentations by Tricaster and AVID.

Timely thread:
We’re upgrading this week to 4.0 .
I’m looking foreard to keyframeable color correctionand mix&match framerates. Do you still have to playback at the lowest resolution or can you maintain multiple resolutions while doing a digital cut (without underruns). We recently purchased a JVC DD pro but, otherwise we use 2:1 and DVC50 and multiple resolutions have been a real problem for us.
