September 20, 2012 at 10:23 pm in reply to: Cropping exported vector (swf) art in Flash for use in AE

I’ve made a topic about this issue on different forum. Maybe it will be easier to understand by reading it also 🙂

I make my artwork in Flash and then export the images or animation in SWF format to After Effects.
The problem is that when I import the still images, there is alot of invisible area besides the actual image that I want to animate. As you can see here https://dl.dropbox.com/u/10484650/ae_prob.png

I’ve selected all the parts so that you can see where the transform gizmos are – as you can see they are far away from each other with alot of invisible space inbetween them. As a result it’s hard selecting bodyparts by clicking on them directly in the Composition panel because they overlap each other in size.

Ofcourse I can resize my Flash work area ( Modify > Document ) and set my X and Y pixels so that I get minimum area when exporting single bodyparts, but that is alot of work resizing back and forth. I am wondering if there is an easier method? I want all the invisible areas gone so that the image size of a bodypart is only of the actual visible image.

Is there an easy way of doing it?

Thank you I will try that 🙂

  • Thanks so far. I will look into it. By the way by a serendipitous “mistake” I’ve succeeded creating an awesome effect for the torch light by using those two effects: CC Radial Blur and CC Light Rays. I just need to find out how I make my Solid transparent. Can anyone please tell me?

Also I would be extremely greatful for any simple suggestions for combinations of specific effects, just like I’ve written earlier, to achieve the results that I’m looking for.

For instance. How do I create a simple shape (a little circle for example) and make it emanate a beam of animatable light? I found a “god light” tutorial that applies to text, but I just want the light to come from a specific point or an object.

I just bumped for this issue my 2 year old topic here https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/985227

Adobe are a joke. Introducing a new CS version of their software almost every year and they won’t implement the features that matter the most. I also get headache from trying to read what my layers, effects and everything else says. I am on 1920*1080 resolution and if I lower it, everything becomes blurry or stretched out.

How can they keep releasing new versions of After Effects when they don’t even include such simple features like size of the interface font.

Is there an update on this issue? I have headache from reading micro-tiny text on my Samsung Syncmaster P2450. The only resolution I can use properly on this monitor is 1920*1080 and the text in After Effects becomes so small that I have to get all the way close to my monitor every time.

Thanks, now at least I know what they are called. But the hold keyframe I actually knew about – I just forgot.

    Thanks 🙂

Great, thanks. I obviously changed that key. It’s name is “TimeSetIn”/”TimeSetOut” under the “CCompTime” category.

Edit: To Todd – I know that list (thanks though). But as I said; I’ve changed it, so it can be hard to find it, once I did. And the list you linked to, does not correspond (in order) to the list of the TXT file (where you manually change shortcuts), so it took me some time to find it.

You are wrong. After some further searching, I found this:

    1) Region of Interrest (select a square around the objects)
    2) Composition > Crop Comp to Region of Interrest
    3) Done 🙂

I know that feature and that is not what I meant. I meant cropping the X/Y dimensions of a comp in the Work Area itself and not the Timeline.
