Lighten up Blub, I don’t think anyone really expects jan to comment on this. I love my HVX but I see it as a temporary solution until the revolution really starts and it is about to. it may be another year or so until these cameras are shipping but I have no doubt that they or others will. Red just seem like the ultimate right now and that is why everyone is excited about it. The SI camera actually exist and will probably be shipping before the end of the year at around $20K. That is a revolution indeed ! I don’t think red is going to be that inexpensive but I have no doubt that it will happen.Happy Friday !

That’s just it ! they don’t have to build one until they make as much money as possible on the varicam/cine alta products and are faced with competition. With the new crop of cameras coming..and believe me they are coming, they will have to build something to compete. the new cameras WILL change the landscape.

I think all the biggies (Panasonic, sony, JVC) are in for a battle in the next couple of years as cameras like SI and Red hit the market. They will change the playing field dramatically. The thing about the bigies is that they are BIG and have very deep resources; they will respond. Isn’t it great ? we are going to be the beneficiaries of some real competition. I can’t wait.

They are all very similar in resolution. For me the variable frame rates and the 4:2:2 color space made it an easy decision. Coupled with an M2 adapter and inexpensive but superb nikkor slr lenses and P2 you have an unbeatable package that can do straighrt HD or the filmic equal of S16. It boils down to the features that meet your needs most. For me it is HVX.

How can you stand having your HVX and only shooting dv ? what’s the point ? I would go nuts. I have two 4gig cards , p2 store and a laptop. with these tools you can do just about anything. Don’t wait for 8 gig because then you will be waiting for 16 gig and oh yeah there is talk of the 32 gig.

I have to agree with Jan here.I’ve heard lots of people on the other forum that complain about the noise say they don’t expect cine alta performance at this price point.. I think they kind of do expect it. Most comparisons show that all the 1/3″ cameras actually come much closer in image quality to 2/3″ cameras than anyone anticipated. I don’t find the noise objectionable because the overall picture is outstanding.. like 16mm. I wish it was a little better in low light but all in all a fantastic camera and P2 is like having free film !

P+S technik and redrock micro are the two I know. P+S very expensive ( about $10K) and Redrockmicro M2 about $1K. I own the M2 and for the money is an incredible l product. A bit of a learning curve but woth the effort.

These “gizmos” (there are at least three I can think of) allow you to attach 35mm lenses to a video camera so you get the same depth of field as movie cameras. I have one and it is awesome.
