nope in in vanilla Pre Pro 2….DVCProHD Codec is available with Matrox Axio LE or Martox Axio added to Premiere.

Even in this case you are looking at video capture…

no file based transfer via P2 yet.

I’m right in the middle of road mapping multiple Premiere Pro’s on a SAN, so setting up standardized method of project creation and media capture set up that is not too tricky for editors, so my head is in the same place as yours.

I could suggest that you set Media captures to same as project…

and the media cahces, renders, etc to a dedicated path….but all renders etc will land in the dedicated folder nomatter what the project, bu the media will land in the project specific folder.

It aint perfect…but it’ll have to do….

Hi Dan…

the only way I see to do what you want to do is:

1) Set your Scratch disk settings to “Same as Project”
2) Create A folder on your media volume
3) Create the project file in that media volume
4) Then for any new project always create a seperate folder for the rpject on the root of the media volume and create your project there.

doing this, your media will always be directed to the project relative folder as opposed to specific folder, and you won’t have to change it every time you make a new project.

OK, here’s where I’m getting lost….

If I take a clip and break out the tracks to Mono.

Then I take the Mono Clips and edit them to a Mono trackon the timeline…

Premiere will literally not let me add the Fill Left/Fill Right effects to a mono clip. This is a Stereo effect.

When you edited the video clips to the timeline did your audio come along with it? If so, even though you broke the mono audio out, you still edited with the original stereo source to a stereo destination track.

Do you see two audio waveforms on your destination audio track on the timeline?
this would indicate thatyou editied with the stereo audio source, not the broken out mono.

NOW…

Having used the fill Left and fill right Audio FX to isolate your speakers in the stereo source….

Check the clips on the timeline to make sure that the filter is still there…

and check to make sure bypass is not checked….

Are you saying that the clips are iloated propoerly, but panned wrong?

Or that they are not isolated properly?

So, for example, you’ve directed Media Capture to a praticular folder.

Then when you change projects,you’d like the media cpature to go to that projects folder?

So you’ve broken out the audio and I assume you’ve edited these to MONO trax on the timeline (you wouldn’t have much choice).

You now have a mono file of each participant.

When you load the broken out sources into the Source monitor are they ok?

But they are not OK on the timeline?

Is the timeline Stereo? Do you see Pan nobs in the Mixer?

I can see how brisge wouldn’t be very effective without a SAN

Facilis Terablock – I love this SAN.

Simple and easy setup and maintiance.

Basically acts like local storage that everyone can see.

Thanks for the very detailed reply.
Makes a lot of sense.
For some reason I feel weid about having project files and media in the same folder…but sorted by type I guess stuff is not to hard to find.

Regarding:

“any generic footage shot for the project is copied into stock footage bins on stoack hard drives categorized by shot type for easy retrieval (hopefully) later.”

Have you considered tagging your clips with Adobe Bridge? I’ve started looking at this. Seems like it would work well.
