Preferences in different projects
Posted by Dan Plonsker on June 21, 2006 at 12:52 pmHi,
I’m working on several projects with PP1.5.
When I set the preferences for one project (scratch disks etc.)
And than I open a second project, PP keeps the preferences that applied to first one (Of course I save before changing projects).
It’s very annoying as I have to change everything each time I switch between projects (I’m currently working on 6 different projects).
Any ideas?

June 21, 2006 at 6:57 pmThis is the way PPro apparently works (2.0 is no different).
It annoys me too. Put in a feature request with Adobe.
Maybe if this bothers enough people, they’ll change it.-Troy Murison

June 21, 2006 at 8:53 pmSo, for example, you’ve directed Media Capture to a praticular folder.
Then when you change projects, you’d like the media cpature to go to that projects folder?

June 22, 2006 at 6:09 amIt make sense that the preferences should be saved in the project file.
As far as I remember there were no problems like this in P6.5 .Thanks

When I change projects, I’d like the media capture to go to another projects folder, but what I get is the same folder as the previous project. -

June 22, 2006 at 4:04 pmHi Dan…
the only way I see to do what you want to do is:
1) Set your Scratch disk settings to “Same as Project”
2) Create A folder on your media volume
3) Create the project file in that media volume
4) Then for any new project always create a seperate folder for the rpject on the root of the media volume and create your project there.doing this, your media will always be directed to the project relative folder as opposed to specific folder, and you won’t have to change it every time you make a new project.

June 23, 2006 at 7:00 amThanks Alex,
What you suggest is right, but I must use “same as project”.
If I want to have some material (Previews, conform audio etc.) on onther disk it will not work, unless I put it all in the same folder (for all projects).Dan

I’m right in the middle of road mapping multiple Premiere Pro’s on a SAN, so setting up standardized method of project creation and media capture set up that is not too tricky for editors, so my head is in the same place as yours.
I could suggest that you set Media captures to same as project…
and the media cahces, renders, etc to a dedicated path….but all renders etc will land in the dedicated folder nomatter what the project, bu the media will land in the project specific folder.
It aint perfect…but it’ll have to do….

For now I continue to change the Preferences each time I switch between projects. It’s annoying but this is what we have.
I was hoping for a fix in PP2 but as Troy said there isn’t.
May be in PP2.5 ……..Dan
