The following is based on discussions I’ve followed here on the Cow.

If you are looking for a combination of I/O and monitoring….

might I suggest the following….

AJA’S Kipro or KiPro Mini – this gives you the flexibility of direct to ProRes Capture. And according to threads an optional workflow that might be a faster way to handle creating Prores Masters… (TOM????)

for client monitoring, why not get the Qualified Nvidia dual head display card and set up one big monitor as your display and dedicate the second, optionally as necessary, as a client monitor? This would give you both Mercury Hardware Acceleration for better real time editorial and the benefit of a pretty nice client monitoring experience when you need it

Again…..if you read through the threads here….you will see people have raised concerns in:
dealing with client monitoring
dealing with Prores ingest
dealing with faster mastering options

So that’s where my suggestions come from….

I welcome feedback on this thread to see what the other gurus think 🙂

What’s the point of duplicating the metadata into the keywords?

You can search across all metadata in Bridge.

So why duplicate it?

The short answer is:

In your Preferences > Media Preferences

choose the checkbox for

“Enable Clip And XMP Metadata Linking Check this box to link clip metadata to XMP metadata, so that changing one changes the other.”

Not able to test this now….but you might need to put your keywords in to fields that are common to both XMP data and PPro Project data.

Remember there is some distinction about a FILE that lives in the file system versus how that file is used as a CLIP inside a PPro project. (for example having multiple differently trimmed instances of the same FILE as different CLIPS.) So in some cases in the Project Panel there is metatdata that distinct to the PPro project versus that which is common to the File asset itself.

But as far as creating searchable keywords common to PPro and Bridge, this should be able to be achieved pretty painlessly.

DNXHD is Avid’s pro mastering codec so the quality is quite good.

I know ppl are using it with PPro.

I’m not sure about how well it plays with FCP….but at least you can get your material to the Mac in a good quality and reasonable size where, if you had to, you could make a ProRez set you could.

I don’t know how it is on FCP…

but based on recapture….I could never get a frame accurate source match…even when timecodes did match with HDV….

My guess was that it had something to do with the GOP structure of the media….

How about Avid DNXHD?

Codec is high quality and free on both platforms….

Now I add a transition to both the clip and its title. I want the title to dissolve in at the same time as the clip. Yet Premiere adds the dissolve centered on the video cuts, but at the start and end of the title. This seems as counter-intuitive as anything I’ve ever seen. Is there a way to change this behavior in Premiere? This slows my editing.”

Some NLE’s contain a default clear “gap” clip event on empty tracks. PPro is not in that category. Empty space on tracks is, by default, actually empty. So technically you can’t have a centered transition without at least two clips back to back.

To help you better achieve your desired editing experience, you might consider using PPro’s create transparent video clip feature.

Once you have one in your project panel, drop it, on an empty track and extend it to the desired length….say the runtime of the project.

When you add titles or other clips to that track, now you’ll have back to back clips on that track, so transitions will be added as “centered” in stead of “starting at.”
