There is also digieffects , i think it is cinelook…. but i dont like the results, and the renders are long
if you want the color softness of film image, not the old look, magic bullet does a good job, but it works on aftereffects, not on fcp… wich is not a big problem, since you can export your final editing from FCP and then import it in AE

[Jeremy Doyle] “Your computer my be able to handle a dual proccesor as well, but not all 400 models can”
I’ve made the compatibility checkup, and it’s possible, but i’m not sure if i want to spend that much for a cpu upgrade, considering also my bus speed…
Thanks for all your replys, I’ve heard what i wanted… I knew the gain wouldn’t be like if i was running a last generation G4 1.25GHZ, plus the sonnet is the brand i was more interested in…
If it cuts my compression time, I am a buyer… plus i can’t afford a new G5, and i financially dont see the point for an old G4, even if the bus speed is faster… prefer saving for a real machine when the time will come.
I’ll keep in touch by this post to give feedback about performance as soon as i will buy the new cpu…
So i’ll reply in maybe two weeks or less
Thanks

don’t want to insult your wizdom if you already tried this, but if you go in the audio/video settings (cmnd-alt-Q),
then in the section “external video”, you select “Apple Firewire NTSC ”If you already done this and it dosen’t work much ( in that case, i’m sorry i assumed that you haven’t try this ) , then i suggest you to run the apple software upgrade wizzard, and get the latest upgrades for your OS/FCP5/QT …
Hope it will solve your problem

Robin,
Thanks for your advice. I know my G4 starts to get old, but right now it’s impossible for me to upgrade the tower.. still, the peripheral will be transferable when i will do it. What i want to do for right now, is use it in 8 bit uncompressed with MiniDV material, instead of capturing it with the firewire. And if needed, i will be able to connect a Betacam deck in it….
Do you think, with raid disks, it might be able to support 8bit uncompress?
Thanks
Alex

August 8, 2005 at 10:05 pm in reply to: import adobe premiere captured shot to avid XpressR Hewitt ,
thank you for your answer
My capture card is a pinnacle studio DV (old thing, i know 🙂 )
[R Hewitt] “You may find the full list of supported cameras on Avid’s Website.”
I’m 100% sure the problem is not the camera, it’s working well on a friend’s xpress setup
The real problem is the firewire card…. it seems to be getting some signal, but then i loose it…. like if the cam was turning on and off every 15 sec…
[R Hewitt] “The Avid system is however able to import these AVI files unless they were captured through a Matrox card using the Matrox codec.”
Do you think the avi file with the DV-NTSC codec will provide the same image quality than the omfi from avid?
And i won’t have to render it before working with?
Thanks
