July 14, 2011 at 5:32 pm in reply to: Multiview / Splitscreen of 8 live cameras

The alignement of windows in position and size with most multiviewers like Miranda is programmable with presets, some of them have an optional genlock.
i.e. you use an MV with 8 inputs. Give them inputs via 1 or 2 Videomixer like GrassValleys Indigo. Indigo has 5 different output possibilities.
Aux 1,2,3, PRV, PGM. The advantage from Indigo is, that every setting can be stored and switched by a dedicated button via touchcreen. So all routings like CAM 1 to Aux3, DVD to Prv, Computer to PGM and so on…happens simultanesouly. (As I remeber correcttly there are 99 Settings available.)
manually “trigger” between Multiviewer and Mixer shouldn´t be a big problem with such an Information overload 🙂
    You get the Idea?

    good luck

  • Basically Tiff sequence for critical work otherwise png sequence.
Just don´t forget to activate “numbered stills” while importing to PPro.

December 18, 2009 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Tricaster and its many problems?

Knowing from the old days with my VT4.5 I guess there are problems if you are switching directly on the mainbus with unsychronized sources (Cameras) I´m not shure if Newtek has fixed this with Tricaster, but with unsynced sources you had to put your next Source onto the previewbus and switch via “Take”. In this case Mpeg2 wouldn´t the best for aquisition. Maybe you should try DV25.
But best would be to ask at the newtek forum.

This sounds like worn-out HQI-Lamps, you can do nothing, but changing lamps or switch off and put another light source to the stage. Filtering doesn´t make sense, you only make the well lit area worse, and the old HQI-lamps change the color on every switch on/off.

[Jeffrey Pritt] “feel free to tell me if this type of thing simply can’t be done for that price.”

I feel free…No it can´t be done for that price.
Avitech is one of the lower prices, look at Miranda, Zandar, leitch, tamuz etc…
The cheapest solution would be 3 Quads and 3 monitors from the surveillance departement…

As far as I know via DMX it is not possible, but just look around for an DMX > serial interface, or ask at avstumpfl.com directly, they have a lot of useful tiny boxes.

beside of all others, here are a basic one where you can start from:

put a styrofoam to the stage, point the cameras to the foam, do a whitebalance, check each camera to the other with a wipe on your mixer that the white looks the same (cam 1 left/ cam2 right and so on)
I guess “Onlocation” has a waveform so you can check here the exposure

October 8, 2008 at 7:31 am in reply to: Audio in windy conditions

If you have lavalier mics, I think you won´t be happy with them, you are not flexible enough. I would use a Shotgun like Sennheisers MKH 416 (ME66 not so pricey) with a windshield (rycote) and a windjammer (rycote) and a boom (ambient quickpole)

Works pretty good in heavy conditions, like stormy mountains etc.

Keep in mind that also the cameraman will get problems with heavy gust of wind, if you want to deny shaky pictures use a really heavy head on your tripod…

…and than there is the hairstyle of your hosts…

    good luck
