Thanks Dwaine,
Allow me to ask more if you don’t mind please.
Does it mean it allow me to pick up any DAS FC raid storage of my choice ( the one suited to my bandwith need for sure) ie. CallDigit, SONET etc. and just direct connect to Resolve , format it and play ?
Or you have other idea ? Thanks

My post super and I have been investigating (reasonably) affordable shared storage systems and these are some of the options we’ve come up with. Do you have any experience with any of these systems? We are not anticipating expanding beyond two edit bays, but would like to understand how/whether expanding would be possible, if necessary. We are OK with granting permissions if necessary. And, while we are editing this project in SD, we’d like to understand how we might be able to expand the system to accommodate much more storage for our next project, if we choose to go HD.
Hi OtherPaw,
With 1O K, I think you can not go with Brigth Drive or other turn key solution.
Volume level SAN is your close to reality FibreSAN solution.Having 2 FCP edit suite running 10 bit SD Uncompressed is indeed easy to solve. I have already implemented the solution 3 years ago. We set-up for 4 edit suite , each edit suite require 2-3 real 10 SD bit uncompressed. Three of them are still using PM G5 , but you have a better computer spec.
You said you already have the FC HBA on your MacPro. ( make sure your HBA is NOT ATTO EL Series, as this is not friendly with FJ)
Now you only need to buy :
– 2 licence FibreJet SAN software
– Infotrend Eonstor A16F or S16F ( single controler) and fill it up with 1 TB SATA II Drive.
– 2 FO cable. As you only have 2 edit suites, you don’t need to buy FC Switch at the moment., because on the Infortrend come already 2 channel 4 Gb port and you can utilise them replacing FC Switch.
You will be fine with it. Now you can work faster than before, there is no media need to copy any more. Each editor can read all volume. You can utilize all media on any volumes . As we have our own volume, why we need to write to other volume !!.
Hope this Help.

Great to know you Bob Erzan, I think we are on the same board 😉
Allow me to ask you a bit. What kind of disc drive ( SAS or SATA) and what raid level do you use to achieve such a performance you describe.
And did you try capturing DPX HD 1080 Uncompressed file while other works station editing 2K 1556 concurrently on the SAN ?

That is still too slow for DPX online. I know direct attached SAS is blowing doors in terms of speed and price, but having at least two stations being able to connect to the same storage for something 3 times as fast is what I am looking at.
Hi Tod,
Bob is correct, uncompressed 2K in Fibre SAN is very expensive.
If you just need to hook up 2 works station for 2k work , you may consider this configuration : ATTO 8 Gb SIngle Channel HBA + 8 Gb Infortrend SF24 Dual Controller + FibreJet SAN software. The mapping is simple, one controller hold a volume. This is not cheap solution, this is still expensive. But this is the cheapest FibreSolution you may consider. No need server or FC Switch.
I did try it in my lab for such a scenario ( on SD 10 bit unc.) with infortrend A08 F. It works well , indeed.
Happy Trying

Hi,
We have set-up FibreJet SAN for 3 separate customers, all running FCP.
For permission repair, we always use standard Apple Disc Utilities software and it works well with FJ.
Just to to share my night mare experience : Do Not use ATTO EL series HBA for your FJ SAN . The EL series is not friendly with FJ. We always meet problems with it untill we replace them to ES series ATTO HBA.
Best Regards
