I have a similar question. Except that I have a PC with an Areca ARC-1883ix 12G RAID controller. Wondering what would be best for external storage, maybe 8 or 12 bays. I see a few units like the Sans Digital EliteStor and RAID Machine and a new item from Taiwan. Priced at $2000 or so. Which hard drives, SAS, SSDs would be best?

Thank you Paolo! That is quite a difference between the JVC and the XHA1. The Canon XF300 will probably do a lot better than the XHA1, and maybe the JVC. Canon camcorders have always had problems with low light. I’m afraid the XF300 will be the same. In the reviews, they always say it does ‘okay’ or ‘good’ but never great in low light.

The thing I HATE about Canon is that they always want to charge $1,000 more for the HD-SDI connector. Many cheaper cameras have HD-SDI. I like Canon, but this time I may go with something else

[Rich Rubasch] “We shoot with a 5D and a CF100 and we have gotten them to look very close…the CF300 with quite a bit more detail and the 5D perhaps a bit softer but pretty darn nice.”

@Rich Rubasch, I did not understand your answer in this thread. When you said, “We shoot with a 5D and a CF100” did you mean the ‘XF100’ or the ‘C100’ or some other camera? Same thing with your use of the ‘CF300’ Is that an ‘XF300’?

I am looking for a 2-camera setup, one of them possibly an XF300. I thought of a 5D Mk II or III as 2nd camera. I know an XF100 would be a good match, but I would like something with changeable lenses – and maybe shoot stills.

Since the original poster had trouble matching the 7D with an XF300, I wonder if the 5D DSLR got better results matching with an XF300.

@David Hare, just wondering what you ended up with for a 2nd camera. I’m looking at picking up an XF300 and will be looking for a B cam. I currently shoot with 2 Canon XHA1s.

Putting the time in is irrelevant if there is a bug. I can’t tell if this effect is workig the way it should. It just took a solid 2 hours to render a 15 portion of a rotobrushed clip. It rendered in spurts, locking up occasionally. I saw a golden candy cane pattern along the timeline fo a while.

Now, as it plays back, I see a couple of places where I could have gotten closer with the brush. If I go back and tweak it now, then I have lost all that time. If I use what I have, it looks rough.

The entire clip is 1:30 and there are 2 such clips that need to be processed by tomorrow. I don’t see it happening at this rate.

The pop-up is from Norton Internet Security.

I tried that. It still freezes. I notice that after I end the program, Adobe Premiere Pro.exe shows in the “processes” list in Windows Task Manager. I can’t end the process from Task Manager.

Also, when I chose Export to DVD, I get a pop-up saying Premiere is trying to connect to a “DNS Server.” I’m not sure what that means, but that’s precisely when it freezes.

  • I just read what’s posted in the forum, not the entire article. Is there an agency that archives song lyrics? What should be my first step in researching a song?

  • I’m new to this forum, so forgive me if this question is answered elsewhere.

Question #1 – If I produce a wedding or event video using a copyrighted song, what permissions do I need, and how do I get it? It seems to me a one-time deal should no problem. If the video is to be re-produced many times for sale, it may hurt the original artist. What is your view?

Question #2 – If I produce a music video for a local entertainer, and the music and lyrics of the song are not hers, nor does she know their origin, what are my protections? I’ve tried a web search on portions of the lyrics and came up empty, but I know the song didn’t appear from nowhere. Please advise.
