    Hello Chris,

Thank you for this information. I did hear about the Drobo brand. What is the RAID configuration you are using ? RAID 5 RAID 6 ?

What type of 4TB drives you have in there ? Regarding the 256 GB SSD, I didn’t understand why you specifically use that for file swapping ? Is the read/write thus the transfer speed faster ?

    Best,
    Alexandre

  • Hello fellows,

Thank you for your replies. If I understand correctly, the XAVC-L is fine for PP editing and I shouldn’t have any issues.

Thank you for the infos !

  • Hey Bob,

    Thanks for the tips.

Yes, just looking forward to the days we can spend more time focusing on the creative results than fixing technical stuff.

It looks like you really have never been a producer. The client I’m developing this project is a 8 consecutive year customer and has been because I go out of my way to find creative solutions that fit the budget. Having a “we need to spend money everywhere fixing things attitude” will just reduce way down the types of customers, you can work with. There is a limit to what is doable I agree but flexibility nowadays is key.

Finally, the companies you found researching on the web, I know all of them and work closely with some of them. They rent camera, lighting and grip equipment not IT stuff. I will ask though if they have ideas who has servers for rent.

    Thanks,
    Alexandre

  • Hello Bob,

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate your help. I have a couple questions on what you propose.

    1. You mention getting an Old Mac Pro as the server computer. Would that work with some other computer ? I know the Mac pro seems to have 2 Ethernet ports allowing to simply connect the two edit stations. If I use a computer than only has 1 Ethernet port and I use a decent Ethernet Hub would that work, or would it allow for more issues ?

    2. What minimum OS system needs to run on the server computer ?

    3. Do you have a link resources on how to “Assign a static IP on one subnet” ?

Any yes, I do know that you cannot plug two Thunderbolt cables in one drive. It’s a pity, and I look forward to the days when that technology is fully developed, working and reliable.

Finally, I could indeed rent a system like that and this is what I would do but: I live in Geneva, Switzerland so it’s not really easy to find a Mac a system like that for rental. And if by a miracle there is a service like that, then it would be way too expensive as everything here is very expensive making it just not possible for this type of production.

  • Hello Tero,

Thanks for the suggestion. I first transcoded clip A of the cut and it didn’t fix the problem. I then transcoded clip B of the cut, which is taken from a 50+ minutes shot of an interview, and now the problem is cleared 🙂

I guess PP doesn’t like long MXF clips…

    Thanks !

  • Hey Frank,

I opened in PP project this morning to discover that the PNG track is not showing anymore, so now I only have the title design layer which is what I want. Interesting…

I had imported the AE sequences via PP “Import After Effects Composition”.

I did notice however, that my PP timeline render/preview becomes red with the AE composition forcing me to render, but it stays yellow and playable without render if I bring in a Quicktime Animation RGB+Alpha export of my title animation. So I might stay with the good old technique, to export first from AE and then bring in the assets in PP as I have a quite a few of these.

    Thanks !

  • Hello Shane,

    Thanks for the info.

Do you think there would be a benefit of going through converting to pro res 422 with the Media manager or it doesn’t serve any purpose ? For info the video will not be polished like crazy in post to look amazing… Just editing, some titles maybe made in After Effects and basic colour grading.

    Best,
    Alex

    Thanks for your reply Dave.

The “Field Dominance” indicate me “Upper (Odd)” for both my Apple Pro Res and Animation titles.
So it seems that my titles are interlaced ?

When exporting from After Effects in Animation there is no setting anywhere that indicates interlacing.

    What should I do ?

    Thanks

  • Yeah we could do a workflow test one 1 shot, thats not a bad idea.

    Thanks.
