Curious. . . are we supposed to be able to do anything at red.com? All I see is that big red light, and a countdown to NAB, no interview there. Maybe it’s just me…

Thanks, steve, for your response. Actually I wasn’t referring to matching up camera moves w/ live action footage or anythign of that nature. I’m just looking for a more fluid may to move around an AE comp that has a bunch of 3D layers, rather than having to keyframe all of the positions that i want. And by motion capture, I meant the same concept as dragging, say, a solid around while AE records position keyframes, except in 3D so that the camera moves around. Hope that’s clear.

You could go video out from firewire, through a deck/camcorder, and use the deck/cam’s video out to go to the tv. Just make sure you have your settings and preferences correct to output video from firewire.

It’s because frame mode is not true progressive scanning, it’s just adding 2 fields together. Also, i believe you are losing some noticable resolution. Further, it’s all about what you need to achieve. If it’s alright for your footage to have that video quality to it, then there’s no reason not to just shoot it interlaced.

you can use color corrector 3 way in final cut pro for a pretty good effect. Just smash blacks down, and lower mids a lot, and make whites a little yellowish. Thint the darks and mids blue also. After that, lower the saturation, and consider using the basic color corrector, to solo out the sky and darken it (assuming you have a pretty blue sky). Tips: to find out what I mean by the basic color corrector part, search for pleasantville tutorial on creativecow or on google.

I believe that it would be quite simple if you have after effects and illustrator. Just get some text on a composition in illustrator first. Then, go into the text menu and make the text just a mask’s path. Then just click on the layer and copy, and i believe it will automatically copy the mask. Then create a new solid in after effects, and paste the mask shape onto the solid, and also apply the write-on effect and paste the mask into the position attribute of the write on effect. Tinker around with that a little.

double click to get it in the viewer, and then click the motion tab at the top, and opacity will be one of the settings.
